istorically speaking, human habitation started its journey from the forest, where they dwelt with the flora and the fauna. Now a days, forest resources have been exhausted due to overgrazing, over-exploitation, encroachments, unsustainable practices like shifting of cultivation and developmental activities such as making roads, buildings, irrigation, power projects, etc. These led to the loss of the wild habitat and resulted in the extinction of certain flora, fauna and microbes. India's biological diversity is very rich but unfortunately its wealth is being eroded due to various reasons. This diversity needs to be preserved and the immediate task will be to devise and enforce time bound plans for saving the endangered plant and animal species as well as habitats of the biological resources. In order to conserve these floral and faunal diversities and minimize man-animal conflict, it is necessary to rehabilitate those indigenous communities in or around the forest rather than their displacement. Therefore, the interrelationship between flora, fauna and human should be urgently addressed in order to maintain a healthy eco-system. The aims of the present national level conference on Biodiversity: Interrelationship between Flora, Fauna and Human are as followsTo understand the floral diversities in relation to local human needs and knowledge with special emphasis on indigenous species. To know the faunal diversities with special emphasis on indigenous species as India has rich indigenous as well as newly introduced faunal diversity. To recognize the wealth of indigenous knowledge of Indian tribes. This national level conference will bring together scholars, academicians and experts from different parts of India to share their ideas and experiences and formulate strategies for future research.
