LSEA Alternative Break Program To date, LSEA has conducted two alternative break trips. Our inaugural trip was to Nairobi, Kenya in March 2012, and last winter students went to Colombo, Sri Lanka. During these trips students met with entrepreneurs and organizations working in a variety of sectors, including education, corporate social responsibility, economic development, sanitation, and impact investing. In Nairobi, students met, for example, with David Auerbach, Co-Founder of Sanergy, who talked about the way that property rights impact the organizations efforts to built hygienic sanitation facilities in informal settlements. Students left these trips with direct insight and knowledge gleaned from practitioners in the field, a better understanding of the social entrepreneurship environment in each respective country, and a greater appreciation of the international nature of the social entrepreneurship field. This year LSEA will travel to Accra, Ghana for its winter trip, taking place January 5-12, 2014. The LSEA team has scheduled or is in the process of scheduling meetings with the following organizations: Innovations for Poverty Action Slice Biz USAID officials Innovate Ghana One Acre Fund iSpace Growth Mosaic Google Ghana AccraHub Acumen Fund As we seek to continue to build out our itinerary for this trip we would greatly appreciate it if we could schedule a meeting with your organization and/or if you could help us identify potential organizations with whom we could meet and facilitate introductions.
