Brickmakers 3-4 RLWM FC RLWM FC travelled to Hollingwood on Sunday to face Brickmakers.

The two sides had met earlier in the season in a one sided draw that Lion really should have won. Following the previous weeks disastrous 6-1 home defeat the General gave a rousing team talk and rung the changes going 3-5-2 with recalls for Leigh, Gilly and Tom chocolate ankles Robley, for his first appearance of the season. Lion started negatively and were over run in wide areas time and time again. It was no surprise that the first goal came from the Brickies winger, who slotted home well with his opposite number and left wing back for the day (hopefully not season) Bush nowhere to be seen. Jordan Thompson a big money signing/bosman free transfer (depending on what game youve seen him in) was put into supposedly his proper position at centre back, many questioning this assessment when he made a clumsy challenge in the area to give Brickies a penalty at the midway point of the first half. His claims to have taken some of the ball were laughable at best and with Badg sent the wrong way, it looked a long way back at 2-0. The luck was to change just before half time as following the first real spell of sustained pressure Lion were able to pull a goal back. Following two or three crosses into the box the ball broke to Jordan 15 yards out to strike at goal, but to back up his earlier comical defending he fell over his own feet. Luckily, Macca (I think) got onto the loose ball and his shot was blocked by an arm. Luke Linacre did the necessary from the spot to avert the nightmares of the previous weeks tame effort. Half time over following a number of tantrums, mainly from skipper Bush who was upset at being asked to run more than normal, Lion set out to be attacking and get more men up the field. A much improved first 15 minutes, and with changes being made (Sepe and inspirational leader Lunny on for Gav and Jordan) the tide of the game had turned. 2-2 was only a matter of time and it was that man Lunn, forcing the ball home at the near post, who got Lion back on terms. From here the game ebbed and flowed. Bush, requiring oxygen, was replaced by Ricky and Danny came on for the impressive Gilly. Disaster struck though as with around 10 minutes to go. Robley, who had been excellent at centre half had done brilliantly to stop a goal bound shot on the line only to then pass the ball to the Brickies player waiting ten yards out to slot into the empty net. The game looked over as the 90 minute mark passed. In what can only be described as a thrilling last 5 minutes, Lion equalised, nearly lost it again, and then somehow won it. Leigh Brear got Lion back on terms as he expertly diverted a shot to make it 3-3. Straight from the kick off Lion then nearly threw it away as some nervous defending gave Brickies one last chance that rolled agonisingly wide. Then, from the next attack, the unusually quiet Macca burst into life. He got the ball on the right wing, cut inside, beat one, beat two, knowing him probably went back and beat the first one again, got to the edge of the area and his left foot strike beat the goalkeeper and slotted into the bottom right hand corner of the net leading to pandemonium on and off the pitch. After the game, we caught up with Chris Gill and spoke to him about the mood in the camp. Reporter So Chris, how are the boys after a sensational late come back? Gilly Well you know, everyone is buzzing. To be honest, we didnt really talk about the game that much, just stuck to last nights antics really. Pepe had some great pants on, getting mesen some of them; I pulled a condom out with my wallet . . . guilty. Reporter So spirits are high in the camp? Gilly At the end of the day were all just lads trying to get a bit of confidence in the world. Most of us are shagging pretty regularly. Cant ask for much more. We also briefly got to speak to manager Andy Brear regarding the confusion with added on time. Brear All it was is that on one hand I thought there should be 5 minutes added on t ime, but on the other hand, I could only come up with 3 and half.
