Job Description Responsibilities Engineer System Performance is responsible for monitoring the performance of the Wireline video, data, and voice networks, determining, developing, and configuring best methods to capture and analyze network performance. This includes managing key performance indicators (KPIs) reported by network nodes; as well as determining and developing methods to report and analyze performance of services and applications that reflect actual customer perception of the network. This position develops reports and trends of the network performance relevant to various Engineering and Operations teams. Alerts management and teams of degradation or improvements in the network, analyzing performance of network elements to determine if changes (software or hardware changes) within the network have improved or adversely effected performance. This position also works on new technologies and processes to improve and optimize our existing networks. Responsible for providing guidance and support to Operations, coordinating the data collection and post processing, plot/report generation, ensuring all test equipments are functional and calibrated on periodic basis as well as making recommendations on future equipment configurations. This individual will be a subject matter expert in baseline hardware and software, analysis of the baseline failures and optimization recommendations. This position works as a liaison between customer service and the Network teams so that they can troubleshoot and resolve customer complaints and trouble tickets in a timely fashion. Assist on customer complaints and trouble tickets by examining/interpreting performance metrics (i.e. dropped calls, throughput rates) and data to determine what issues are most impactful. Other responsibilities include: Proactively conducts long term planning to ensure long lead performance solutions are tracked and included in network upgrades/redesigns, and ensuring network performance maintains consistency with changing requirements and needs of the business. Interfaces with all levels of management. Collaborates with other Network groups Typically manages multiple projects at a time. Uses traditional means of finding and resolving system issues. Utilizes multiple tools to optimize system performance. Maintains engineering parameters of the networks to insure superior quality, using computer modeling techniques, drive testing or other tools etc. Implement new technologies as required to maintain a competitive edge in the marketplace. Perform research into process and implementation improvements that positively impact network system quality.

Qualifications

Interface with multiple systems/APIs to gather data, transform metrics into web GUIS/dashboards, automate processes as required. Scripting Language (PHP/Python/JAVA, etc.) -HTML/CSS Cisco/Juniper certifications or equivalent work experience on routers.

Five years experience in technical and/ or operations assignments; expertise in data communications network protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, M experience with high speed data network architectures and network elements (IP, LAN Technologies, Routers, etc.). Five years experience EMS/NMS with converting traps back to network issues.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access. Strong analytic, interpersonal, and communication skills are required. Strong programming skills required. Strong troubleshooting skills. Strong problem solving abilities. Moderate to minimum supervision over work product. Works independently on routine research and reporting functions. Demonstrated project management skills.

Functional Accountability

Responsible for supervision of specific projects or definable portions of larger projects or processes; creates practices that aid in the suc completion of projects within a product or functional area; typically reports to Manager (Band 6).

Knowledge and Skills

Requires a range of skills within a professional discipline including familiarity with principles, theories, concepts and technologies as well knowledge of established procedures, policies and practices.

Education & Experience Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering preferred or other related degrees. Masters degree a plus. 10-15 years of experience in the telecommunications industry.
