2 Topic The Vietnam War Length 2 hours Student background knowledge and learner considerations Students have just completed studying WW2. They have just looked at the Cold War as they draw to the end of the topics on 20th century history. They are in the middle of their history reports some students have cold war related topics for their reports. Syllabus Outcomes Lesson Outcomes (Students will be able to know and do) Students will know about the basic facts of the Vietnam War. Students will appreciate how war can divide a society. Assessment of the outcomes (How will I assess that students have achieved/demonstrated
the outcomes?)

I will observe the students work during the lesson as they complete their activities. I will collect the letter to the PM at the end of the lesson. Classroom Management Considerations (What do I know about key aspects of the

learners behaviours? How will I manage the behaviours of the learners throughout the lesson? What strategies do I need to use?)

I need to keep students focused on the task, and provide variety dont stick to any one thing too long. Anticipatory Set (How do I settle students/prepare them for lesson/encourage
participation/motivate?)

I will begin with class discussion of interesting facts found at home doing their history report. The students can discuss this as I prepare the classroom, handouts etc.

Ask students to discuss any interesting facts they have discovered about their topic for their 20th century report. Ask also if there are any problems or questions.

Follow on from Cold War ask students what they already know about Vietnam War - words, key people, battles?

Introduce the Vietnam War briefly discuss main countries, issues, dates. Explain worksheet and handout to students. Question 8 from text book. Read through text and diagram. Discuss the conditions the war was fought under, the Viet Cong tactics etc. Question 5, 6, and 7 from text. Discuss national service and conscription as a class. Play I was only 19. Have students complete worksheet, then discuss as class.

9.40am

Completing Worksheet individually or in pairs. Discuss answers with class at conclusion of work. Complete question 8 in workbook, and then discuss in small groups. Students complete questions in their workbook. Listen and watch video. Complete worksheet then discuss as class.

Checking that all students are participating. Asking probing questions when provided with an answer. Circulate through class checking on progress, and answering questions.

Are there still things you dont know or want to know? Finish / summing up / link to the next lesson This is the final lesson of content in this subject. Lessons over the next 1 2 weeks will be summary and revision for the exam. Homework Finish any work not completed in class.
