List of suggested topics for term paper

S.No. Topic
1 If a buyer is interested in minimizing the risk resulting from fluctuating market prices, what techniques should he apply?
2 How would you go about operationalizing the concept of ‘materials management as a profit centre’? What advantages
would you expect from making it into a profit centre?
3 In the case where multiple number of items are procured, how would you apply EOQ concepts to aggregate inventory
control as opposed to individual items inventory control?
4 Does the learning curve affect ‘make or buy’ decisions? In what type of production situations, is the make or buy decision
very crucial?
5 In an unstable market for raw materials what type of buying policy should be followed?
6 What are the implications of B2B and B2C on production and operation management? List the socio-economic conditions
necessary for B2B and B2C to flourish and explain.
7 Illustrate how does “Installing MRP system tend to bring in an integration of material management, production management
and other functions in the organization” ?
8 How would you go about installing a new computerized codification system in an organization? Illustrate the steps involved,
problems anticipated, if any and your proposal to overcome these problems.
9 For a manufacturing organization of your choice, discuss how an ERP system could be used and whether it could increase
effectiveness.
10 For service sector like major airlines, discuss how an ERP system could be used and whether it could increase
effectiveness.

automobiles and computers impacted inventory decisions?

the main reasons firms adopting ERP?
13 What are the basic assumptions underlying the classical EOQ model? Mention a few situations where these assumptions
may not be valid and therefore EOQ model can be used straightaway. In such situations, check the validity of basic
concepts behind EOQ model. How could these concepts , if they are valid, be used in such situations?
14 In what different ways can the risk of stock out be expressed and measured? What is the function of a safety or buffer
stock? What are all the different uncertainties against which you would like to protect the inventory?
15 You are asked by your superior to look after the problem of scrap. What will your actions be? Explain the importance of
good preservation, packing, and marking of the materials.
