Using the Kariba Dam Hydroelectric Energy Project (Phases I (South) & II (North)) Case Study (Appendix A, attached), apply what you learned from the N4 Toll Road to this case study. Critically analyze and evaluate the Kariba Dam Projects economic and financial feasibility and viability. Discuss the key drivers for the projects inception and whether in YOUR OPINION, the project achieved its financial, social/economic development objectives. Incorporate a discussion of project finance as a tool for development Identify the major challenges to incorporating external social/environmental factors into the project finance model. Suggest ways to improve project finance modeling to better incorporate social/environmental factors Discuss in detail how you would structure the project differently both qualitatively and quantitatively in order to achieve the following: 1. Maximum ROI whilst at the same time; 2. Maximum positive social/economic returns for the communities affected by the project. Do a NPV on the Kariba Dam Project using assumptions1 that YOU create regarding output, cost and usage. Develop cash flows for not less than 3 and no more than 5 years from any stage of the Project to support your NPV model. Incorporate your financial model as part of the Assignment to demonstrate the above.

Using any Sub-Saharan African country of your choice, examine the various tax reform policies adopted since the 1990s and critically evaluate the effectiveness of such policies in bridging the resource gap. Hint: A good answer should adequately address all parts of the question as underlined above, and draw on inferences from theory and evidence. This assignment focuses on the identification of a research problem and designing a proposed research strategy, the outcome is a research proposal. The final proposal should be a maximum of 2,500 words and structured using the following key aspects: Background of the study and justification of the selection of topic (1 page) Why did you select this topic? What is the context of your study? Why is it particularly useful to research the subject? Problem definition (1 page) Using only relevant aspects of the literature justify why this is a topic suitable for investigation. This not a full literature review but does involve critical analysis of existing literature to identify a research gap. Be sure to raise clear research questions that can be linked to testable hypotheses. Present a statement of research objectives and hypotheses (1/2 a page) Ensure that your hypotheses are not only testable, but are related 1:1 with your research questions to the extent that your success in testing them will enable you to answer the research questions adequately. Use the same approach to formulate your objectives, make sure they are linked to your hypotheses. Present an overview of the literature review (2 pages) How have others already contributed to what we know about the subject? A sound literature review will enable you to identify a knowledge gap. Present a detailed methodology using references to support your choice (1 pages) ! ! ! ! ! ! ! What methods do you intend to use for data/ information collection? Why have you chosen this method? What are the limitations? How do you intend to gain access to data? How will you analyse the data? What is your sampling framework, and how was this decided? If you intend to collect opinion research you should identify in the proposal how you will get access to collect information from people and companies. Your proposal should also include the sampling frame you propose to use.

A timetable of activities (1 page) Using a suitable time management-planning tool identify when you would need to undertake various tasks to complete the project.
