RUTH JOHNSON - MICHIGAN SECRETARY OF STATE

The Ruth Report

November Edition 2013

Johnson to non-U.S. citizens: You cant vote

Secretary of State notifies 600 people to withdraw from voter rolls
Dear Friend & Supporter, More than 600 registered Michigan voters, verified as non-U.S. citizens by federal records, were notified this month that they must withdraw from the voter rolls. Dozens of individuals have already responded, asking to be removed from the rolls. The law is clear. Only U.S. citizens may be registered to vote and vote on Election Day. We must take a hard line on election integrity. For example, we now require voters to attest, when they sign their ballot applications, that they meet all qualifications to voteage, residency and U.S. citizenship. HELPING OUR VETERANS: With Veterans Day nearly here, I wanted to take a moment to recognize my team for all they are doing to assist Michigans nearly 700,000 veterans. Some of those efforts include: A new drivers license for veterans that will be launched next year. It will include a special VETERAN designation, helping vets get the benefits they have earned and deserve. Work with homeless veterans at various Stand Down events across the state to help them get the ID and documents they need. Were also going to be providing vet benefit information in some of our branch offices. A new veterans license plate, to debut next year, that will raise money directly for vets and their families. Support for laws that help vets return to the workforce more easily. Please, if you see a veteran, take a moment to thank them for their service and sacrifice. With warmest wishes for you and your families,
