This activity relates to Topic 8 and 9. Use the skills attained upon the completion of these topics to complete this Learning Outcome.

ePortfolio Activity 3
Introduction
Electronic Portfolio (e-Portfolio) is the major assessment component of UU100. An e-Portfolio refers to An Electronically stored collection (or archive) of students experiences, achievements and artefacts, together with their reflections on learning. (Australian e-Portfolio Project, 2009). Mahara@USP is the e-Portfolio system used by USP. This UU100 e-Portfolio Activity consists of tasks related to Topics 8 and 9 that you will need to complete and upload in your e-Portfolio as per the assessment requirements. This activity sheet is to be used in conjunction with e-Portfolio Student Guide which gives you more technical guidance and specific instructions on how to use Mahara@USP.

The structure of the ePortfolio page has to be in alignment with the format illustrated in the sample outline guide. Upload all ePortfolio activities on the page created for UU100- SXXXXXXXX_FULL NAME_UU100 LEARNING JOURNEY.

Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this activity, the highlighted Learning Objectives will be achieved: 1. Access and use USPs ICT resources available on-campus and off-campus. 2. Identify and use different features of a computer system. 3. Use standard applications for creating documents, presentations and spreadsheets. 4. Recognise the structure of information, that is, how it is produced, organised and disseminated. 5. Apply appropriate techniques in formulating effective search strategies to locate relevant information resources. 6. Navigate and utilise the Web, the USP Library website, the USP Library catalogue, and an online database subscribed by the USP Library to locate relevant and scholarly information resources. 7. Use appropriate referencing software and tools. 8. Critically evaluate information resources and synthesise information in academic writings. 9. Activity 3: Finding resources using the Library Catalogue and ProQuest Database. Note: This assessment has 2 parts (A & B) Part A: Interpreting a course reading list and finding the information resource using the Laucala Library Catalogue (http://www.library.usp.ac.fj) and/or ProQuest Database.

The following is a reading list provided by your course lecturer for a course in Mobile Communications.

Describe your initial search strategy, that is, your search terms and the features of the catalogue that you used? State the number of resources your initial search strategy found? Were you able to find your required information resource? If not, describe how you revised your search strategy. Once you located the resource, state the call number or digital object identifier (DOI) and then explore relevant subject hyperlinks of the resource and identify one additional resource relevant to the search topic. Write the reference of the relevant resource in APA referencing style.

Answer to Activity 3 has to be submitted as a single PDF (Portable Document Format) File. You can convert a MS Word File into PDF Format by simply saving it as PDF File Type. Check your document for possible plagiarism using TurnItIn by uploading it using the Eportfolio Activity Dropbox located under ePortfolio Block of the UU100 Moodle page. Modify your submission and ensure that your final version has a Similarity Index of less than or equal to 50%. Ensure your file is named SXXXXXXXXX_ACT_3, where SXXXXXXXXX represents your ID number. Export your Portfolio Activity to Mahara. (After exporting, SXXXXXXXXX_ACT_3.pdf should be visible in the Contents -> Incoming folder on Mahara)

Part B: Summary Create a journal entry in Mahara (use the instructions given in the Creating Journals Guide). For each of the search tools, that is, the Library Catalogue and ProQuest database, identify one feature of the tool that you felt was helpful and state how this features was helpful. Also, state one feature that you felt was unhelpful and state why you found this feature to be unhelpful. The title of the Journal Entry should be: My Reflection for Activity 3.
