Introducing Ms. Lorusso

Hello! I am excited to be joining Mrs. Framptons Grade 6 class. I look forward to a fun school year with the students where I have the opportunity to experience my first practicum. A little about me: I am currently completing my elementary education degree at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo. I recently completed my Bachelor of Arts degree at VIU with a major in Sport, Health and Physical Education and a minor in Psychology.

My Schedule for the Classroom

I have already been in the grade 6 classroom for one week where I had the opportunity to teach a few lessons with the students. During the first week I was mainly getting to know the students, observing teaching strategies and helping out students during classroom time.

Tip of the month: The Importance of Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day , especially for growing children. After 8-12 hours of sleep, the body needs to refuel because it has been fasting all night long. It is important for kids to eat a healthy breakfast that includes fiber, protein, and whole grains and to avoid any added sugars that some cereals may contain as this will cause them to crash later in the day. If a child eats a healthy breakfast in the morning, it will help boost their metabolism, memory, attention span, and to stay focused during an eight hour day of school. A healthy breakfast is a necessity to kick start a childs way to academic success. Here is an example of an ideal breakfast meal:

1 piece of whole grain toast with natural peanut butter 1 fried egg with half an avocado on the side 1 glass of milk or no sugar added orange juice
