Use of Force
Passive Resistance
Simply not going with the program Not offering any resistance or assistance Many use of force issues occur in this area
Active Resistance
This occurs when a suspect uses physical or mechanical means to resist an officer. Officers can use reasonable force to overcome this resistance. At this point in the continuum compliance techniques can be used (pain).
Assaultive
At this level the suspect is no longer just resisting and their energy is being directed towards an Officer. At this level Officers can employ Defensive Tactics, such as baton strikes, empty hand strikes, impact munitions, etc.
