"Teri Rennia voiced very clear, strong and articulate positions in support of safeguarding residents of Binghamton and the Southern Tier from Marcellus Shale fracking hazards and other environmental threats," said Dr. Benjamin Perkus, NYRAD's board chair. "We are extremely pleased to endorse Ms. Rennia's candidacy for the office of Binghamton Mayor," he added. NYRAD released for public review a Binghamton Mayoral Candidate Environmental Questionnaire sent to both candidates. MsRennia, the Democrat candidate, submitted a written response by the requisite deadline. Richard C. David, the Republican candidate, did not provide any response. NYRAD's environmental questionnaire addressed Marcellus Shale Fracturing, Brownfields redevelopment and other environmental and public health concerns. Putting on-hold the Department of Health's shale fracturing "health impact analysis" review that lacks any public participation; Undertaking a comprehensive shale fracturing Public Health Impact Study; and Supporting the "polluter pays" principle of toxic clean up liability. "Binghamton, NY is the epicenter of the national shale fracturing debate and the race to succeed Mayor Matt Ryan, one of the most effective advocates for protecting residents of the Southern Tier from shale frackng hazards, has major local, statewide and national implications," said Dr. Perkus. "On behalf of NYRAD, I urge all Binghamton voters concerned about Marcellus Shale Fracking, Brownfields Redevelopment and other critical environmental concerns to support Ms. Rennia's candidacy," Dr. Perkus noted.
