SimpleFinish problem description"

! Parts arrive to the SimpleFinish work cell via an overhead conveyor. TBA~T(12,24,15), i.e. average TBAs is 17 minutes (or, the average arrival rate is 3.5 per hour)." The Finishing Operator unloads a part from the conveyor, moves it to the Finishing Station, and nishes it. Finish time: minimum 6 minutes, maximum 16 minutes, most likely 8 minutes; i.e., ST~T(6,16,8) or average ST is 10 minutes." After nishing, the operator moves the part to the palletizer and the process is repeated." Four parts are loaded to a pallet." Once a pallet has four parts, the palletizer wraps the parts (30 seconds) and moves the pallet of parts into a storage area where it awaits pickup by a fork truck. The fork truck moves the pallet of parts to the warehouse." After the palletizer moves a pallet is moved out of the way, the Finishing Operator gets an empty pallet and places it on the appropriate place on the palletizer." Pallets arrive in batches of 4 every hour." The Finishing Station goes down periodically and the repairs are made by the Finishing Operator. TBFs are exponentially distributed with a mean of 100 minutes; TTR is uniformly distributed between 10 and 20 minutes." The Finishing Operator takes breaks. 15 minutes after 2 hours, 30 minutes after 4 hours, and 15 minutes after 6 hours." The supervisor checks with the Finishing Operator periodically; for about 3 minutes roughly once per hour."

! Parts arrive to the work cell via an overhead conveyor at a rate of 4 per hour rather than 3.5 per hour. Assume the new overall TBA~triangular(10, 20, 15)" The increase in rate is due to a new product (Blue)."

! ! !

Blues take twice as long to process as the base product (Yellow)." Blues are placed 3 per pallet, using the same pallet." Yellow and blue products must be on different pallets; no comingling of products."

Gift Pak Exercise (Quiz 4, Spring 2013)"

! BullDawg Specialty, Inc. is considering producing a new product, Maroon and White Gift Paks, but they are concerned about the production and buffer space required. Therefore, they plan to do a simulation analysis to assess space needs. They plan to use two identical boxing machines; each machine will load two Maroons and two Whites into a box and gift wrap it. The wrap time is estimated to be triangularly distributed with the minimum, maximum, and most likely times of 3, 7, and 5 minutes, respectively. The assumed arrival rate of the Maroons, and of the Whites, to the boxing area are each Poisson distributed with a mean of 40 per hour. When wrapped, the boxed items will travel on a 20-foot long conveyor to the next process (conveyor speed is 100 feet per minute). 80 boxes are delivered at the beginning of the shift and again half-way through the 8-hour shift. Model this proposed system in FlexSim and run the simulation for one shift. "
