Thank you Suzanne Potter

The 9th annual Potters Bowl took on a special meaning this year as it was dedicated to the late Suzanne Potter who passed on August 26th. As the founder and 9 year chairperson of the fundraiser, Suzanne was devoted to making this event a success. Known for her vivacious energy, bold and outgoing spirit, Suzanne worked tirelessly throughout the year to ensure success the first Sunday in November. Whether she was persistently looking for the next ticket sale, scouring the community for a sponsorship, or recruiting volunteers for the event, she always had a smile on her face and a quick step in her walk! Suzanne had volunteered for more than 10 years at the Senior Center, where she received the Volunteer of the Month Award, and most recently was awarded the Exemplary Service Award at the 2012 Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. Suzanne will be greatly missed by many at Berkeley Senior Services and throughout the community.

SOME THOUGHTS ON MEDICARE

Medicare and the new Affordable Health Care Act
1. Does the new Health Care Act affect my Medicare Coverage? Answer: No. The Health Insurance Marketplace which is now underway is designed to help people who dont have health care coverage. If you have health care coverage through Medicare or a Medicare Advantage Plan, The Affordable Health Care Plans now being offered WILL NOT have any effect on your Medicare coverage. Your Medicare benefits are not changing. You continue to have the same benefits through Medicare that you have now. Locations in Berkeley County WV that you can go to apply for the Health Insurance Marketplace. Berkeley County In- Person Assister MAXIMUS Location: Berkeley County DHHR 433 Mid-Atlantic Parkway, Martinsburg, WV Telephone: 304-267-0100 2. If I now have Medicare, do I need to do anything with this new Health Insurance Marketplace? Answer: No. The annual Medicare Open Enrollment is not a part of the new Health Insurance Marketplace. Also, it is against the law for someone who knows you have Medicare to sell you a Marketplace Plan. Your Medicare Open Enrollment (Oct. 15th - Dec. 7th, 2013) is the time for you to review your current Medicare plan, including any changes in cost, coverage and benefits for 2014. The Open Enrollment period is a time when there is a higher risk for possible fraudulent activity. DO NOT share your Medicare number or other personal information with anyone who knocks on your door or calls you uninvited to sell you a health care plan. And, as always, if you have questions or concerns, contact Medicare directly or feel free to call me. Stephen Englebright, SHP Counselor, Berkeley Senior Ser vices. 304-263-8873 ext. 105
