Tips on Designing Slide Presentations with a Purpose
Have you heard of the phrase Killed by PowerPoint? Maybe youve sat in a meeting or conference and have been serenaded to sleep by the monotonous slides being clicked right before your very eyes. If not, you are one of the lucky ones. But for those of use who can relate, nows the time to consider exactly what your PowerPoint point really is. Below are some tips to consider as you design your future presentations. #1: I want my slides to accompany a speech. TIP: Include more images so your audience listens to you instead of reading the slides. #2: I want my slides to help my audience build memory on the topic. TIP: Add a catchy title that stands out or even play with WordArt to design a slide that makes an impact. #3: I want my slides to engage my audience. TIP: Include some thoughtprovoking and discussionbuilding questions in the presentation. Never underestimate the

[poupower power of Think-Pair-Share. #4: I want to present key ideas in a succinct way. TIP: Model short-hand and note-taking by chunking the information for your audience. Students benefit from seeing multiple examples of notes and if you present slides that hold too much text, this may work against you. Most importantly, have a clear objective for bringing slides into a lesson, and by all means, have fun doing it!

Google in Education is planning a professional development event in Roseville on February 8 and 9, 2014.
