How to set up a direct link between Primavera Project Manager 5 and Navisworks?
timoh@stanford.edu This document describes how to set up a direct link between Primavera Project Manager 5 and Navisworks. Activities from a Primavera Project Manager database can be directly accessed in Navisworks Timeliner and be linked to ! geometry to create a "! model. The main advantage of such a direct link is that changes within the schedule can be updated within Navisworks Timeliner directly without the need to e#port a schedule file $.mp#% from Primavera that need to be copied on the machine running Navisworks. &owever' this document only describes the set(up on how to establish the direct link for a local installation of Primavera Project Manager 5 on the same machine than Navisworks.

Installation of the Primavera 5.x Software Development Kit (SDK)

To be able to access the Primavera Project Manager 5 database the Primavera )!* has to be installed as a first step. +ollow these steps to install the 5.# )!*, -et the installation .! startup via autorun or run )etup.e#e from the .!. /f any 5.# components have not been installed yet' you will get the following screen,

&owever' if the client3server or another 5.# component was already installed' you will be given the option to modify the current installation.

)elect Modify and click Ne#t. 4

)elect the option for )oftware !evelopment *it under 5ther .omponents. .lick Ne#t. Note: DO NOT UNCHECK the Primavera Client Applications. That will uninstall the client.

)ince the .lient applications are already on the computer' you have already specified the default locations of the program folders. )kip to step 04 below. /f M!A. 4.6 or later is not on the computer' you will be prompted to install it. .lick 5*. /f M!A. 4.6 is on the computer' skip to step " below,

Accept M!A.2s license agreement, $Note, /f prompted to restart' you can choose to manually restart and go through with the rest of the Primavera 5.7 install. Then restart once done installing 5.7.%

9nter Product code then click Ne#t.

.hoose to accept the -icense agreement then click Ne#t.

.hoose .ustom then click Ne#t.

)elect the !estination folder $it is recommended to keep the default .,;Program +iles;Primavera% then click Ne#t.

)elect the !estination .ommon +iles folder $it is recommended to keep the default .,;Program +iles;.ommon +iles;Primavera .ommon% then click Ne#t.

)elect the )oftware !evelopment *it then click Ne#t.

)elect the Program folder that you want or keep the default of Primavera. .lick /nstall to begin the installation.

An instruction bo# will appear. Please read the instruction bo# entirely' and then click 5*.

After the installation of the )!* the installation program automatically starts Primavera2s database connection wi?ard. This section describes how a connection to the M))@- database of a local Primavera Project Manager 5 installation needs to be configured. )elect Microsoft )@- )erver3M)!9 in the )oftware !evelopment *it driver type combo bo#. Press Ne#t.

Calidate the database configuration and press Ne#t.

The !atabase .onfiguration 1.onnection )uccesful2 screen should pop up. +inish the database configuration by pressing the +inish button.

Add a description in the Primavera )oftware !evelopment *it )etup bo# for the new database and finish the installation by pressing the 5* button.

After all these steps you should be able to establish direct links to the Primavera Project Management 5 database within Navisworks.

/n the Navisworks Timeliner right click and select Add -ink(DPrimavera Project Managerment "35.

/n the Primavera !)N !ata )ource -ogin dialog select Primavera )!*. +or a standard Primavera Project Management 5 installation the Aser Name and the Password should be admin. Press 5k.
