The fth annual Light Up Huron Charity Event is upon us. Admirals Pointe and Huron Hometown News invite individuals, business owners and social groups to purchase and decorate any size Christmas tree or wreath. The trees and wreaths are to be decorated with a theme and they will be auctioned off Thursday, Dec. 12 from 5-7 p.m. during a silent auction held at Admirals Pointe. Appetizers will also be served at the event. The trees and wreaths will be up for display Nov. 20 and will be displayed until the auction. All proceeds from this event go towards the Hurons Secret Santa Program. They will utilize the donations for their community outreach program to help local families in need during the holiday season. Ohio State Marching Band at Kalahari
The world famous Ohio State University Marching Band will perform locally at Kalahari Resort Convention Center Ballroom on Friday November 29th, at 7:30 p.m. The 192 piece all brass and percussion Marching Band is staying overnight at Kalahari on their way to the big game at Michigan the next day. The indoor concert in Kalahari's large ballroom at their convention center is sponsored by the Erie County Ohio State Alumni Club. Firelands School of Nursing Students, Faculty/Staff Participate in Make a Difference Day

Firelands Regional Medical Center School of Nursing students, as well as faculty and staff, held a friendly competition recently, all while giving back to those in need. The juniors, seniors and staff all tried to out collect each other with canned and boxed goods as part of Make a Difference Day, which was October 26. The Class of 2014 won the contest, collecting four big boxes full of canned goods, paper products, toiletries and boxed goods. Caryl Crane Youth Theatre is holding open auditions for its upcoming production of Willy Wonka, November 15 & 16, 2013, in the McBride Auditorium at BGSU Firelands College. Willy Wonka will perform February 7 16, 2014. Seeking all ages & types for Willy Wonka! Great roles available for actors, singers and dancers. No experience necessary! Brian M. Biecheler
Jan 21, 1980 - Oct 28, 2013 Huron Brian M. Biecheler, age 33, of Huron, died unexpectedly Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, in his residence. He was born Jan. 21, 1980, in Sandusky, and graduated from Margaretta High School in 1998. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, Sandusky. Brian was employed by the Erie County Juvenile Justice Center in Sandusky, and was a part-time police ofcer for the Monroeville Police Department. Brian enjoyed golng, playing the guitar, attending Cleveland Indians baseball games, and going to the movies on movie Tuesday with his wife Staci. His quick wit and dry sense of humor always impacted others positively. He is survived by his wife, Staci (Pahl) Biecheler; mother, Katherine (Scherer) Biecheler; father, Bradd Biecheler; grandmother, Alice Scherer; grandfather, George Biecheler; brother, Corey (Michelle) Biecheler; sisterin-law, Stefanie (Troy) Kopke; father- and mother-in-law, Bill and Tammy Pahl; two uncles, Charles (Marlene) Scherer, and Eric (Deb) Scherer; four aunts, Joyce (Rick) Leibacher, Karen (Glen) Gildenmeister, Kris (Don) Jenne, and Sherry (Carl) Cheek; four nieces and nephews, Aiden, Kayleigh, Gabriella, and Kruz; many cousins; and his dog Bricks. Brian was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles F. Sherer; and grandmother, Evelyn Biecheler. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. David E. Coy

Aug 18, 1940 - Nov 1, 2013 David E. Coy, 73, residing in Huron, passed away Friday afternoon, Nov. 1, 2013, in Stein Hospice Care Center after a brief illness. David was born Aug. 18, 1940, in Columbia City, Ind., to Earnest and Mable (Caskey) Coy. He was employed with the N & W Railroad, was a real estate agent in North Carolina, drove truck in the Sandusky area for a number of years, and was most recently employed with the Sandusky Transit System. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching the lake and nature, he also enjoyed shing, taking drives, helping others, and spending time with his family and friends. David is survived by his signicant other, Dottie Chavarria of Huron; three daughters, Cheri (Tim) Grable of Fort Wayne, Ind., Kimberly Pelfrey of Columbia City, and Kristi (Troy) Goldner of Columbia City; one step daughter, Vanessa Brionez of Norwalk; one son, Jeffrey D. Coy of Columbia City; one step son, Lan Coy of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; one special step granddaughter, Dayzia Brionez; ve great-grandchildren; ve sisters; three brothers; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Dean Moft-Coy in 2002; one brother; and one sister. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the funeral home. Its Official The Church Has Left The Building

On the weekend of November 9 and 10 The Chapel in Sandusky and Norwalk will do just that. As part of a 40-day spiritual growth experience, the buildings will be essentially closed and some 2000 regular attenders will be out serving the needs of organizations and individuals across Erie, Huron and neighboring counties. There will be no regular weekend church assembly as normally thought of when one thinks of going to church . Anyone driving by this weekend will simply see an empty parking lot and signage indicating The Church Has Left The Building. Im totally blown away by how this has developed over the last several weeks says north campus pastor Reg Genter. Between our two campuses there are over 110 small groups (ranging in size from 8 to 30 people each) who have been meeting at homes or at the campuses, once a week, for Bible study and prayer. And whats even cooler is this isnt a top-down kind of thing where one pastor has a vision for a special project. Each group is coming up with their own ideas and ways to reach out and help others this weekend. People are pooling their time and resources to serve others outside the walls of our church.

Many groups have already contacted homeless shelters, nursing homes, food pantries etc. Others are reaching out to individuals in their neighborhoods who need assistance. Were excited to hear the stories that will come out of this adventure in the weeks to come said Todd Nielsen the pastor at the south campus in Norwalk.Of course this is not a totally new idea, many churches in our area are becoming more intentional (or more involved in mission thinking) about outreach on global, local, and personal levels. Like so many other area churches, The Chapel has no interest in being considered the best church in the community. But rather, a church that is sincerely for the community. Our plan is to come alongside many individuals and organizations in our area to provide help in whatever ways are most meaningful to them. says Huron native Jay Halley, pastor of Impact and Outreach. And its our hope is that Chapel attenders will view this as more than just a weekend of service in the name of Jesus, but an ongoing way of life. Jesus did not come to be served but to serve, and he showed us how.

Ronald Anthony Catri

May 9, 1932 - Nov 1, 2013 Ronald Anthony Catri, 81, of Huron, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, following a brief illness. Ronald was born May 9, 1932, in Sandusky, son of the late Anthony and Jeanette (Brengardner) Catri.A 1950 graduate of Huron High School, he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force after serving in Europe and Korea with the Strategic Air Command under General Curtis Lemay. He retired from Prudential Insurance after 32 years of service and had a long standing business with a good friend in a real estate investment venture. Ronald was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who cared deeply for his family.He belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was an active member of his church. He enjoyed spending time in his yard and garden, at the beach, riding his bike, cooking, and playing dominos. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildrens sporting events and spending time with friends and family. He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Gloria Catri, whom he married April 11, 1953; his son, Jeffrey (Deborah) Catri, of Dublin, Ohio; daughters, Susan (Thomas) Bodnar, of Bay Village, Ohio, and Lisa (Thomas) Carroll, of Huron; eight grandchildren, Kelsey and Alexander Catri, Thomas and Michelle Bodnar, Allie, Jessica, Sarah, and Matthew Carroll; brother, Joseph Catri, of Huron; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents. Family and friends may call 10 a.m.-noon Friday, Nov. 8, at St. Peters Catholic Church Gathering Space, 430 Main St., Huron. Mass will begin at noon followed by the burial in Scott Cemetery, Huron. Feb 26, 1959 - Oct 31, 2013 Lauren Harmon-Grifth, 54, of Huron, gave up her long and courageous battle with cancer and went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday evening, Oct. 31, 2013, in The Meadows at Osborn Park. Lauren was born Feb. 26, 1959, in Bremerhaven, Germany, and lived most of her life in Evansville, Ind. She attended grade school, high school, and community college in Evansville, and had a degree in computer operations. She worked for many years as a general manager for Anser Phone in Evansville and for Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Huron and the Huron Eagles. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, reading, shopping, and visiting with her friends by telephone. She delighted in spending time with her family. She especially loved the Huron Library. Lauren is survived by her father and stepmother, Gary and Dona (Gurske) Harmon, of Huron; brother and sister, Justin Harmon, of Huron, and Jennifer (Charles) Capizzi, of Sandusky; beloved grandmother, Juanita Harmon, of Huron; niece and nephew, Cassidy and C.J. Capizzi; and stepdaughter and companion, Sara Wargle and Arthur Grifth, of Louisville. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sammye K. (Logsdon) Harmon. At Laurens request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held at Zion Lutheran Church The Rev. Mandy Oleson ofciated. Burial followed in Scott Cemetery, Huron. On November 1, the Roman Catholic Church celebrates All Saints Day, a day set aside to honor those holy people who have gone before us and who died as martyrs for their faith. In addition, this day serves as a reminder to follow in the footsteps of these holy people and to actively live out ones faith. This year on All Saints Day, the third grade class at St.

Peter School was challenged to learn something about one of the Saints for the celebration. Each of the 20 students chose a Saint about whom they wanted to learn more. At the school Mass on November 1, the students dressed as his or her chosen Saint and shared a few important facts about the life of that person. The Saints selected by the students ranged from more famous people like St. Nicholas to those lesser known individu-

als like St. Cecilia. In commenting on the students efforts, third grade teacher, Mrs. Nancy Wyneski, stated I feel that this process is important because the children begin to realize that the Saints all were human beings and many had very normal backgrounds. She further added We focused on the idea that we are all Saints in progress. We are all called to be Saints!

St. Peter School Pumpkin Contest

The students at St. Peter School recently got into the spirit of Halloween by participating in an annual pumpkin decorating contest. Categories included Prettiest, Funniest, Scariest, Most Original, and Strangest, about 50 pumpkins were submitted for the judging process. Students showed their creativity by decorating their pumpkins with everything elaborate carvings to a clown, princess and a snowman. The winners walked away with a special Halloween treat bag and certicate.

Woodlands Students Visit Lemmy

ever, the main focus remains on the magical happenings that take place inside the Cafe. While at the restaurant located at 2027 Cleveland Road, West last Wednesday, the students were treated to a cup of hot chocolate by the owner, Mr. David Riedy, and were provided raw potatoes to throw down the basement stairs to feed Lemmy by Ms. Tabitha Loroff. The students appeared to be quite surprised by the results after feeding Lemmy. Mrs. Amanda Arthur, the Gifted Intervention Specialist, provided a descriptive prewriting assignment while at the restaurant. The students were asked to use their senses and record their surroundings. Customers chatting, silverware clanging, the cups were soft and warm and the marshmallows were sweet and tasty, were several observations that were shared by the students. The students later used this experience to compare Lemmys caf to the mysterious Van Gogh Caf in their classroom novel. Additional assignments relating to the Lemmys eld trip exploring the characteristics of the of legend genre, researching nonction articles pertaining to the legends of Lemmy and the Lochness monster, identifying comparisons between these legends and expressing their ndings through written expression. It is nice to be able to venture out and experience a mysterious side of a local caf and draw comparisons to our readings, stated Mrs. Arthur. Many thanks to Mr. Riedy and Ms. Loroff of Lemmys Restaurant for opening their doors and sharing the Lemmy legend and to Ofcer Lobsinger for assisting the students safely across Cleveland Road.

The Huron Tigers football post season was set prior to this season ending game against Clyde. Huron was in. The only thing on the line for both teams was who would receive a home playoff game and outright second place in the SBC. Perkins was set to play to claim the outright SBC title against SMCCs nal conference game. And a Perkins loss there, would rank somewhere near that David and Goliath thing a couple thousand years ago. From the start of the game, Clyde established themselves as the dominate force, with outstanding line play on both sides of the ball. Their offensive line chewed through the Tiger defense grinding out 272 yards on the ground. When they strategically needed a pass, they got it. Defensively, the Flyers tackled and contained Thompson

far better than any other team did this season. He could only scramble his way way for 22 yards on 20 carries and was sacked during the rst half for a safety. The bottom line during the rst half, Huron was lucky to only be trailing 16-0. The Tigers best offensive play was an outstanding kick off return down the right sideline by sophomore Grant Farrell. But as would be case all night, the Clyde defense buckled down allowing nothing to come of it. Give the young Huron men credit, they came out locker room at half time with a sense of purpose and struck fast. After a set of nely executed plays that culminated in QB Thompson 2 yard dive into the endzone, the home team seemed primed to make a game of it. But 16-6 was as close as the Tigers would get. The offense

Lady Tigers Lose at District Semis

In an unexpected match up this early in the state volleyball tournament, Division III No.s 5 (Huron) and No.6 (Upper Sandusky) faced off in the District Seminals held at Seneca East. Upper Sandusky played like the potential champion they could become while the young team from Huron struggled. In the end, the Tigers lost 3-0 (20-25, 12-25, 19-25). Junior Hannah Cantrill, recently named the SBCs Outstanding Performer, had 10 kills and 8 digs. Fellow SBC rst teamer and returning next year, Hadley Sterett also had 10 kills and 8 digs. Up the middle, second team All-SBC performer, Megan McCarthy struck with 8 kills up the middle and two blocks. Freshmen setters, Gabriella Wood and Alli Grendow had 17 and 11 assists respectively. Wood also had 11 digs while Riley Strickland led the team with 12 digs. Note: Three Tigers were named to the All-SBC squads under Honorable Mention. They were senior Piper Miedema, and the freshmen setters, Alli Grendow and Gabriella Wood. Congrats to Hannah Cantrill - Named SBC player of the year 2013.
