“Reinventing Edison: Build your own Light Bulb” and Educational Standards
“Reinventing Edison: Build your own Light Bulb” is an educational science kit designed and manufactured by
Harris Educational for use in schools, home schools, science fairs, and by hobbyists. The kit includes a 28
page instruction manual that details multiple engaging science experiments that can be safely performed
using the kit. The experiments are designed with best practices in mind and are meant to be open ended
and inquiry based. Student experimenters are encouraged to ask questions, find answers, and test
hypothesis that help illustrate science and technology principles. The instructions were designed with two
sets of educational standards in mind:
The National Science Educational Standards as published by the National Science Resources Center
(NSRC) and endorsed by the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA).
http://www.nsta.org/publications/nses.aspx
and
The Standards for Technological Literacy as published by the International Technology Education
Association (ITEA)
http://www.iteaconnect.org/TAA/Publications/TAA_Publications.html
It is our hope that by focusing on standards this science kit will more easily fit into a school's science
curriculum, conform to the goals of that curriculum, and provide a familiar and easy to teach set of subject
matter for educators. It is also our goal that by focusing on standards this kit will be more valuable to home
schooling parents and to science hobbyists and science fair participants.
This document will list the experiments included in the instruction guide for this science kit and will cite the
specific science and technology standards addressed by this science kit.
