What is Green the Choice Philippines Scheme


Green Choice Philippines is a voluntary ecolabelling programme which helps identify products or services that reduce environmental impact compared to other similar products based on aspects such as raw materials extraction, recycling and disposal methods. It is guided by principles and procedures of ISO 14024 and was established in 2000. Green Choice Philippines is administered by a non-profit NGO, the Philippine Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, Inc.

GCP has granted its Seal of Approval to 24 products. The programme has developed and approved environmental criteria for 35 products and services.

What products are covered by the Green Choice Philippines Scheme


Green Choice Philippines covers the following products: tissue paper, household batteries, engine oils, printing and writing paper, crayons, fire extinguishers, cement, fluorescent lamps, electronic ballasts, paints, writing instruments, paper envelopes, paper boards, inkjet and toner cartridges, desktop and laptop computers, multifunction printing devices, printers, photocopiers, facsimile machines, liquid disinfectants, bath soaps, hair shampoos, and dishwashing liquid.

What are the key features of Green Choice Philippines Scheme


GCPs standards take into consideration the life cycle stages (cradle to grave) of a product or service. The GCP Seal of Approval is owned by the Government of the Republic of the Philippines. GCP is governed by the National Ecolabelling Programme of the Philippines (NELP) Board, a quasi-government entity with a multi-sectoral representation from government agencies, industry associations, NGOs, and consumer groups.

How to become certied


Step 1: Submit application materials to the National Ecolabelling Programme - Green Choice Philippines (NELP-GCP) Administrator, the Philippine Center for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, Inc. (PCEPSDI). PCEPSDI conducts an evaluation based on the requirements outlined in the Criteria for Awarding the Seal of Approval. PCEPSDI may request a third party expert examination and will conduct site visits or product testing to validate claims of the applicant. After evaluation, the PCEPSDI makes a recommendation to the NELP Board. The NELP Board notifies the applicant of the results with formal correspondence and issues the license or other appropriate notification.
