What is Career Architecture?

The infrastructure that defines and organizes roles (job titles) within our grade structure based on job duties, skills and scope for purposes of evaluating compensation, benefits, career development, workforce planning, etc.
Career Architecture is the filing cabinet
The overall structure of how we organize jobs

Job Function is the filing drawer

Example: Finance

Job Family is the filing folder

Example: Audit, Tax, General & Operational Accounting

Job Title is the page in the filing folder. A job title has a corresponding grade and description.
Example: Compensation Analyst, Senior Consultant, Financial Analyst

Job Families Were Created When They Met The Following Criteria: Recognized role in the external market where compensation data is readily available within our survey sources The market pay line for the role is substantially different than a role already defined within the job structure Typically greater than 5 employees in the role

iCIMS Updates: Resource Requestors

Field Addition:

All Resource Requestors (RRs) will be required to select from the Job Title field the appropriate title for the position upon opening an RR. It is a mandatory field. RRs will now be able to align each new position with the new Career Architecture in preparation for the SAP implementation. Hiring Managers will need to update existing open RRs with new mandatory Job Title field, prior to closing RR. Please work with your GRM team to be able to access your RRs to make these changes.

iCIMS Updates: Resource Requestors

Job Description Upload: The new Career Architecture job description for each new position will be auto-populated into iCIMS. It will be placed into a new field on the Job Description tab called NTT DATA Job Description. It will be auto populated twice a day. It is directly tied to your selection in the Job Title field, and will not be editable, so you need to be very confident in your choice. Once the RR is approved for hiring, you cannot edit your choice in the Job Title field. Continue to update the Positions Functions or Responsibilities field as you do now with client specific requirements. The details populated into the NTT DATA Job Description field will be a concatenation of both the new Career Architecture job description and the description provided by the initiator in the Position Functions or Responsibilities field.

Salary Structure: How is it Built?

A salary structure consists of a series of pay ranges, each having a minimum and maximum pay rate. The midpoint for each range represents the median market value for the jobs in the grade. Jobs that represent similar internal and external worth are grouped together in the grades. We have developed this structure to provide a framework for the administration of base pay at NTT DATA. Our intent is to provide guidance and data when making pay decisions, while allowing managers to retain as much flexibility as possible. The new salary structure was based on external survey market data. A majority of the new jobs defined within our career architecture were directly benchmarked to jobs within the IPAS survey (for U.S. and Canada) and the Hewitt High-Tech survey (for India). The NTT DATA jobs were mapped to the survey job families and job levels based on job content and scope of responsibility. In general, the base pay offer for a new hire must at least meet the minimum salary range for the role they are taking. Typically, new hire pay will fall between the salary grade minimum and midpoint.

Career Architecture: Resource Requestor FAQs

Q: Do job titles differ by Geography? A: All job titles are global in nature and do not differ per country. Q: What title is used on the offer letter? A: Until further notified, legacy titles will be used in the offer letter. As we transition to SAP, you will be notified when this changes. At that time, all employees will be notified of their new titles. Q: How do I explain the potential change in job title to a new hire? A: Use this language: The title you are receiving now [as part of this offer] is part of our current job title structure and will be your title when you join the company. Please note, however, that we are in the final stages of developing and implementing a new career architecture for the entire organization which will be completed in late Q3/early Q4 of our fiscal year (i.e., before March 31, 2014). At that time, as part of the new career architecture, there will be title changes for most of the employees within the organization. All employees will be notified of their new titles as the company launches its updated career architecture. Please note that any title change you may experience as part of the career architecture rollout will have no effect on your current pay or benefits.

Career Architecture: Resource Requestor FAQs

Q: Where do I find the job code for the position I am opening? A: As of Nov. 4, 2013, the new job title is a mandatory field in iCIMS. The Resource Requestor is required to select a job title when opening a position. Each job title directly correlates to a Function, Family, and Title combination (job code) in the NTT DATA, Inc., Career Architecture. Please refer to the Career Architecture and Job Catalog for a full listing of job codes and corresponding job descriptions. Q: Where would I find the grade associated with each job code? A: Grades are also found in the Career Architecture and Job Catalog. All grades are directly tied to the job code selected by the Resource Requestor when opening the position. Q: Are the job descriptions editable? A: The job catalog is built to provide consistency across all families and grades within NTT DATA concerning years of experience, education, etc. The duties listed for each job are a high level overview of what is required for the role. You are able to amend the descriptions, but we ask that you do not edit the content. You can add to it any client specific technologies, or requirements that are required for a specific position.
