Chiller Optimizer or DDC Controller

COP depends on: a. chillers b. evaporator pumps c. condenser pumps d. cooling tower motor Points of sensor: a. Chiller kWh, chilled water pump kWh, condenser water pump kWh, cooling tower kWh b. Chilled water produced side on temperature sensor on common supply and return, flow rate c. Condenser water used side on temperature sensor on common supply and return, flow rate

d. Building cooling load side on temperature sensor on common supply and return, flow rate e. Weather Station on dry bulb, wet bulb and relative humidity Sensors details: Example of system based on three (3) chillers: 1. kilowatt hour meter for chiller no. 1 2. kilowatt hour meter for chiller no. 2 3. kilowatt hour meter for chiller no. 3 4. kilowatt hour meter for chilled water pump 1 5. kilowatt hour meter for chilled water pump 2 6. kilowatt hour meter for chilled water pump 3 7. kilowatt hour meter for cooling tower no. 1 8. kilowatt hour meter for cooling tower no. 2 9. kilowatt hour meter for cooling tower no. 3 10. Supply and return water temperature for chilled water piping 11. Flow meter for chilled water piping 12. Supply and return water temperature for condenser water piping 13. Flow meter for condenser water piping 14. Supply and return water temperature for cooling load water piping 15. Flow meter for cooling load water piping 16. Wet bulb temperature sensor, Dry Bulb temperature sensor and Relative Humidity sensor for weather stations Above sensors can be reduced or expanded as necessary. Example if only kW/Tons chiller system is required, than item 1,2,3 and 9,10. To have a good measuring points on chiller optimizer system, sensors required as follows: 1. kilowatt hour meter for chiller no. 1 2. kilowatt hour meter for chiller no. 2 3. kilowatt hour meter for chiller no. 3 4. Supply and return water temperature for chilled water piping 5. Flow meter for chilled water piping 6. Supply and return water temperature for condenser water piping 7. Flow meter for condenser water piping 8. Supply and return water temperature for cooling load water piping 9. Flow meter for cooling load water piping 10. Wet bulb temperature sensor, Dry Bulb temperature sensor and Relative Humidity sensor for weather stations

Reference point must be able to: 1. monitor 2. evaluate 3. response and 4. react toward changes. Monitoring all sensor or parameters for calculation and parameter limit alarm. All data than can be used to evaluate current system toward design and current status. Another logic or decision making is necessary to determine energy balance in chiller plant room. All above point will generate information on: 1. Total cooling tonnage produce by all the chiller side 2. Total cooling load use by the building side 3. Total heat rejected from the condenser water side Calculation must be made to make sure energy balance in the system is comply. Chiller Optimizer will given instruction to chiller in terms of demand limit or leaving set-point in order continuously match the actual building load without interrupt the temperature critical requirement. Optimizer also will analyze condenser load and make sure system follow design condition. Chiller Optimizer also capable of: 1. Maintaining energy balance 2. Generate / monitor system efficiency 3. Report system inefficiency 4. Giving an output to external modulation device example Variable Speed Drive to maintain required flow rate. Current unit limitations: 1. Limited input / output on Analog or Digital signal 2. Only making decision based on Return Temperature Sensor and protect Leaving Temperature limit 3. Didnt consider energy balance 4. Cant analyze system inefficiency on building load, chiller cooling load and condenser load. Any loss should be calculated as Saving offset value. 5. Only consider outside air on Dry Bulb point. Wet Bulb and Relative Humidity factor not considered 6. Limited memory storage for data logging. 7. Method of control on Demand Limit and Temperature Set-point are not dedicated.
