LESSON PLAN READING

Modul Guru Literasi Bahasa Inggeris Tahun 1 35 Focus : Reading Learning Standards : 2.1.1, 2.1.2 (a) /^/ {SK & SJK} Objectives : By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: i. say the phoneme /^/ correctly; ii. pick the right letter card to match the /^/ sounds in spoken words; and iii. sing a song with actions. Time : 30/60 minutes Teaching Aids : picture cards ,objects ,a box, word cards, sentence strips Cross Curricular Element : Constructivism Introduction: a. Greet pupils. b. Pupils reply. Set Induction: a. Teacher asks the pupils to gather a box. b. Teacher takes out an object from the box ,state the name of the object and the pupils repeat. c. Teacher shows word card with the object, teacher spell the word and pupils repeats. d.Teacher introduces the phonics /^/ based on the word cards shown and the pupils repeats.(Appendix 1) Example: T: Cup. P: Cup. T: C / ^/p/ - Cup. P: C/^/p/ - Cup. Step 1: a. Introduce sentence strips to the pupils. (Appendix 2) b. Pupils repeat after you. c. Pupils read the sentence together. Step 2:

a. Teacher paste a lyric of a song entitled On The Rug on the board. (Appendix 3) b. Teacher reads the chants line by line followed by the pupils. c. Pupils clap or stamp their feet as they say the chant. b. Next, say a word with the /^/ sound from the Jazz chant . c. Pupils repeat after you. d. Invite pupils to pick a picture card/, name the object and then say /^/. Step 3: a. Give out a set of picture cards to groups. (Appendix 4) b. Say words with the /^/ sound and get pupils to pick the pictures and show them to the class. c. If you say a word without the /^/ sound, pupils do not pick up the picture. d. This can be played as a game. Step 4: a. One group will shout a word from the given pictures. b. If the word has the /s/ sound, the other groups will pick the picture and say /s/. c. The game is carried out until every group has had a chance to shout a word Consolidation: a. Say the chant again and pupils repeat. b. Next, get pupils to say the chant. c. Pick a leader amongst the pupils to lead the chant. d. As the chant is chanted, show the pictures. e. Pupils clap or stamp their feet as they chant Closure: a. Leave the class by showing a picture card, ask the pupils to name the object: T: What is this? b. Pupils respond by saying: This is a cup.
