AET/515 Instructional Plan Speech Writing/Presenting

(Alisha L. Boykin)

Needs Assessment
The learning opportunity is to walk away from the Speech Writing/Presenting class with confidence in being able to write and present your own speech. Currently there are own line tutorials and videos available in how to write and present a speech, plus I have samples of my own personal speeches students will also study and interpret. The student should be available to present a new written speech every week then ready to present it on video, Skype, or through a webcam. Whats available is the research a student will find to prepare and present a speech, what should be available is the factual information a student will be presenting to there audience and being able to answer follow-up questions (if asked) from the audience. The solution would be to make sure students are well knowledgeable in writing there own speech and presenting it in front of an audience.

Instructional Goal
Meet the Criteria for a SMART goal: S Specific M Manageable A Attainable R Realistic T Timely

Performance-Based Objectives
Who is the learner? The student and the audience is the learner, the student is the learner because they have to learn how to write the material and present it, the audience because the are learning what you are teaching them. What is the degree of accuracy that the learners need to accomplish? The student needs to develop confidence to stand in front of a crowd of unfamiliar faces and present knowledgeable information that is beneficial to them.

Summative Assessment and Learning Outcomes

How to evaluate the learner:
This will be done by creating a student evaluation form that will be marked during a presentation which will target improvement with writing and presenting the speech.

Learner Characteristics
The learner characteristics will include the following Pre-Speech strategies: Time Limits Organization Targeting the audience (any demographic between 18-40) Consider using visual aid (only towards the end of the class) Prepare note cards

Practice, practice, and more practice. Try to remember your material

Learning Context
Positive motivation Setting will be in a oval classroom with the audience facing the podium where the student will be presenting the speech. Online students will be presenting on camera and uploading the video, on Skype, or webcam. Learning from others Developing a lack of confidence to present in front of an audience Learning activities Knowledge in the material that is being presented

Delivery Modality
Five to seven minutes will be given to each student for presenting there speech. If in person, handouts will be given in advance, the use of a power point will be impressive, and free styling your speech (meaning, no note cards). If online then a recorded video uploaded to the instructor, over Skype, or webcam. I expect professionalism all the way around that includes your attire.

Instructional Strategies
Have an idea for your topic Research it

After it is written have someone proof it.

Practice, practice, practice Complete a dry run; present the speech in front of friends, family, or even me. I will be more then glad to critique your speech once it is uploaded and emailed to me but please tell me in advance you plan to do this. Stay calm and confident
