Let the bells ring

St.Anthonys dedicates renovated tower
BY THOMAS J. MC KILLEN MANAGING EDITOR The bells at St. Anthony Catholic Church were ringing again Nov. 3, breaking a long silence and marking the end of the project to restore the bell tower. Our celebration is almost finished, Father Dennis Budka said at the end of the 10:30 a.m. mass at the church, which is located at N74 W13604 Appleton Avenue in Meomonee Falls. Budka then walked toward the entryway to begin the ribbon cutting for the renovated bell tower. Let us ring the bells, Budka said during the blessing. Three seconds later, the sounds of three bells could be heard. That sounds sweet, he said. Let us sing Gods praises. Afterwards, Budka said the three bells were tested once separately but not all at the same time. This is the first that theyve rung out, he said. Budka explained there are three switches to operate the bells. The low toned bell is rung slowly or for sad occasions. All three bells are rung at once for an occasion like this. Carol McGibany, an administrative assistant at the parish and a member of the committee overseeing the fund raising campaign, explained last week that the large bell was put on an automatic timer several years ago so that it could ring five minutes before weekend masses. In addition, the bell was also set to ring The Angelus at 6 a.m., noon and 6 p.m. Our older parishioners remember this bell ringing as a reminder to those laboring in the fields to take a moment for prayer during their day, McGibany said in an email response to a reporters questions last week. According to McGibany, the automatic timer was turned off three years ago, silencing the bells. As a result, any bell or all three bells could only be run manually by turning on electrical switches.

St. Boniface members part of Catholic schools walk

Members of the St. Boniface community, along with more than 100 Catholic schools from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, soul-stepped their way through the Menomonee River Parkway Nov. 2 in an effort to promote the benefits of Catholic Education. Along the two-mile trek, participants visited with neighboring Catholic school members, enjoyed the beautiful day, and were encouraged to stop for a treat from the 14 Catholic high schools who sponsored "Treat and Tweet" stops along the way. "Our family feels so blessed to be a part of the St. Boniface Community," said Lisa Fernandez, St. Boniface School parent. "Just look at how many families showed up today to celebrate!" Representation from students, parents, teachers, and friends from St. Boniface totaled 184. The pledges received for the St. Boniface walkers will substantially increase the school's tuition assistance Angel Fund. The fund helps make Catholic education accessible to any child who wants it. Students from St. Boniface also helped collect over 1000 pairs of gently-used shoes for distribution to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. For more information about St. Boniface Catholic School, please visit http://www.stbonifacewi.org/. About St. Boniface Catholic School St. Boniface Catholic School is a K4 through 8th grade school located in Germantown. Be wary of scams related to the ACA

BY J.B. VAN HOLLEN ATTORNEY G ENERAL , WISCONSIN Any time a new, large-scale program, such as the Affordable Care Act (ACA), is unveiled, fraudsters and identity thieves may try to take advantage of consumers who may not be familiar with the specifics of the program. Of particular concern is the potential for fraudulent websites designed to obtain consumers personal information or steal their money. Reports of suspicious websites, advertisements, telemarketing calls and door-to-door solicitations have turned up since the rollout. Therefore, to protect your personal information and your pocketbooks, keep in mind the following precautions when signing up for an ACA program: Stop. Call. Confirm. Protect your social security number, health information and financial information. Before you give out any personal, health, or financial information STOP. CALL the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI). CONFIRM with OCI that the entity is legitimate. If someone discourages you from contacting OCI, or pressures you into giving up private information, you may be dealing with a fraudster. OCIs contact information is: Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance, Phone: (608) 266-3585, Madison; (800) 236-8517, statewide; Website: http://oci.wi.gov Verify the legitimacy of websites you visit. Using search engines may lead you to fraudulent websites if you are not careful. A good practice is to type the name of the website you want into your browser window, rather than merely searching for information about the Affordable Care Act. The official, primary site is healthcare.gov. Other federal and state governmental websites provide links to legitimate sites relating to the ACA. Keep good records. Keep a record of everyone who assists you, who they work for, and their telephone number, address, email address, and website. S TATE

...St. Anthonys tower

From page 1
McGibany indicated she did not know the last time when the bells were run by operating the individual switches. The bells were shut down in the fall of last year and the pastor at the time, Father Dennis Wieland, sent out a letter to parishioners stating that the bell tower entrance could not be used due to cracks in the structure and falling masonry. The time has come for us to rectify this situation and have the necessary work done so as to save our steeple, Wieland stated in the letter. An engineering firm brought in to assess the tower determined that major repairs were needed. The church launched a fund raising campaign last fall to fund the repairs, which was done over the summer by Krause Konstruction. According to information provided by McGibany, the old slate roofing tiles which were said to be the original 1867 tiles were removed and the remaining wooden exterior was weatherized. Scaffolding was then erected and repairs began on the brickwork of the bell tower. Cracks were repaired and a 600 pound I-beam was installed to the front face of the bell tower. The beam, which is invisible to the eye, gives the bell tower additional support and strength. Finally, the steeple was reshingled, with copper used as a sealant against water damage. The new cross was set in place Sept. 11. McGibany added that old slate roofing tiles, iron climbing rungs and nails were kept from the project and are available for purchase. Anyone interested in purchasing these pieces of history can contact the St. Anthony Parish Office at (262) 251-5910, est. 710.

Think before signing. Dont sign anything you dont fully understand. Be suspicious. Are you being asked to transact business in an unusual way for example by using money order, or by buying J.B. Van Hollen a money card? Stop, call and confirm. Also note, insurance discount cards are not the same as insurance. Dont give into high pressure tactics. Threats, limited time offers or misinformation about Medicare are red flags. You cannot go to jail for failing to enroll in the Affordable Care Act. The ACAs enrollment period runs through March 31, 2014, therefore, you should not feel pressure to decide on a plan today. If you are on Medicare, you do not need to enroll in the ACA or reapply for Medicare. If in doubt, check with the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI). OCI licenses anyone authorized to engage in the business of insurance in Wisconsin, and OCI can verify the legitimacy of anyone purporting to be trained to help enroll people in the Affordable Care Act. And, as always, if you suspect criminal activity, contact local law enforcement, or contact the Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) at 800-4227128. My office, in cooperation with the OCI and DATCP, is committed to prosecuting fraud and will work together protect Wisconsin consumers.

Girls volleyball: Falls advances to state semifinal

BY THOMAS J. MC KILLEN MANAGING EDITOR The Menomonee Falls girls volleyball team advanced to the state semifinal with a 25-17, 25-17, 16-25, 25-17 win over Pius XI at the state tournament at the Resch Center in Green Bay Nov. 7. Simone Lee led Menomonee Falls with 21 kills while Abby Becker added 16 kills. Menomonee Falls will face Sun Prairie, which beat Appleton North in the other early quarterfinal, 23-25, 20-25, 25-18, 2513, 15-13 Menomonee Falls advanced to the state tournament when it swept its way to another sectional title Nov. 2, beating Mukwonago 25-12,25-16, 25-12. With the win, the Indians will be making their third trip to the state tournament in the past four years. "I think we can focus more on the winning and the playing aspect (at state), setter and right side hitter Becker said afterward. The opponent will be different than projected, as Pius XI staged the biggest upset of the postseason, defeating Divine Savior Holy Angels. Following the Mukwonago win, Lee said that there so many teammates who were part of previous state trips, it's a good opportunity for them to get back there and new players to experience playing in the Resch Center. Menomonee Falls jumped into the lead in the first game against Mukwonago, opening up a 7-1 lead that included two kills by Lee. Mukwonago rallied and cut the Falls

lead to 11-8 following an ace by Taylor Dybul. But Katherine Von Bank answered with a kill for Falls. Falls then scored the last six points to take the game. Mukwonago stayed close with Menomonee Falls in the early stages of the second game, as a kill by Mukwonagos Ellie Michalski reduced Menomonee Falls lead to 13-11. But Menomonee Falls scored the next three points and finished the game by scoring five consecutive points. In the third game, Menomonee Falls had three, four, and five point scoring runs to close out the match. "I think we made minimum errors," Von Bank said of the sectional final, finishing a run in which Menomonee Falls swept all three opponents in its sectional bracket. Menomonee Falls Coach J.C. Bruns said told his team "this is the least excited I've been about winning a sectional final. It has nothing to do with not being happy for them, it has everything to do with our team expectations and what our goals were." Bruns said he was not worried about his team's confidence or them being rattled at the sectional level. "They knew very clearly not to take anybody lightly. I think we played that way, to make sure we weren't taking them lightly, because (Mukwonago) is a very solid team," Bruns said. -By Thomas J. McKillen, Managing Editor

How To Find A Challenging Job Thats Right For You

(NAPSI)Find a job you love and youll never work a day in your life is advice attributed to Confucius and an idea popular with many career-minded Americans today. With that in mind, Krista Davis, Regional HR Director for Reckitt Benckiser, whose entrepreneurial culture has made it an attractive workplace environment for many, has the following suggestions as you contemplate your next career move: 1. Determine your unique skills: What are your strengths? What makes you happy? What talents and abilities do you have that most people dont? 2. How do you like to work: Do you prefer interpreting and critically assessing information? Putting abstract ideas and concepts together or taking them apart? Gathering, sorting and organizing information or figuring out calculations? Or matching, selecting and making sure directions and standards are followed correctly? Would you rather work with people, with things or with concepts? 3. Where do you like to work? A small regional office? Corporate headquarters? A home office? How often do you like to work away from home? Do you like to travel? Some companies encourage employees to experience the work culture of other countries. 4. Create a road map: Where do you want to be in five or 10 years? Develop a road map to get to where you want to be and stick to it. 5. Test the waters: Try an internship or apprenticeship to see if the job is right for you and to get your foot in the door. 6. Look for a company that shares your values: That may mean working for a nonprofit or for a major corporation that contributes time, merchandise and money to sick children, endangered species, great art or something else you care about. 7. Work hard: An internship is a chance to show how you can add value to the organization, so build your personal brand from day one. Its a good move to treat an internship like an interview, and always remember that you dont see everyone who sees you. Many people prefer an internship where you get to make decisions from the beginning, work with real brands youve already heard of, work with a multicultural group of driven people and earn more money for more effort. Davis company is a global consumer goods leader in health, hygiene and home products, the portfolio of which includes iconic brands such as Clearasil, Mucinex, Lysol and Woolite. According to Randy Bolenbaugh, Sales Analyst at RB, the company gives colleagues ownership of projects from day one. The people who work there have an intense drive for achievement and a desire to outperform wherever they focus. Said Bolenbaugh, I was able to develop a better understanding of the business early in my internship and own my projects the same way other full-time employees on my team were doing. I challenged myself to overdeliver on everything I did, and thats what made me stand out. The multinational corporationit has operations in over 60 countries, headquarters in the U.K., Singapore, Dubai and Amsterdam, and sales in almost 200 countries-is looking for highly skilled, ambitious professionals, new graduates and interns who want a fast-paced, challenging and rewarding career to fill positions in sales, marketing research and development.
