Bush

Former President of the United States of America

75 75
Greetings to those honoring His Holiness The Dalai Lama and his 75 years of good works in Tibet and around the world. As President, I had the honor of meeting with His Holiness on several occasions. Like so many who have had the privilege, I always found this good man to be a person of sincerity, reconciliation, and peace. Throughout our history, the United States has stood with those who offer a message of hope and freedom to the downtrodden and oppressed. This is why our country has been drawn to a humble and spiritual leader who lives a world away -- a universal symbol of peace and tolerance, a shepherd for the faithful, and the keeper of the flame for his people. His good heart has won the respect and affection of the American people, Laura and me included. I am deeply grateful for The Dalai Lama's example of respect and religious liberty, and I am thankful for his 75 years well-spent. Your Holiness: Laura and I join all Americans in wishing you many more years of good works. We continue to pray for you and your noble mission, and we send our very best wishes.
