Objective : In the half century, following the invention of the transistor,
unprecedented developments related to solid state components have
helped generating a massive market for electronics and information
technologies. In this fast changing field, the professionals involved with
industrial systems come across many modern component families. The
course is designed as an introduction to these new component families,
both analogue and digital, together with data conversion (analogue to
digital and digital to analogue conversion) components. 45% of time is
dedicated to hands-on sessions.

Objective : Power electronic converters can be found wherever there is a need to
modify a form of electrical energy. Unprecedented developments have
occurred in modern systems based on monolithic VLSI components
with multimillion transistors of submicron dimensions. These two
reasons have affected the power electronic interface of products and
systems where power quality electronic play a key role in control,
protection supervision and motor drives etc.

Objective : The objective of this workshop is to promote and popularize Astronomy
among school children. This Program covers both theoretical and
observational aspects of basic astronomy. Night sky observations through the
GOTO 45cm telescope, the largest optical telescope, in Sri Lanka and usage of
modern astronomical instruments such as CCD cameras, spectrograph,
photometer etc will be part of the program.

Target Group : The workshop is tailored for school children, who have a keen interest in
Astronomy. Desired age group is between 14- 20 years.

Objective : This course is designed to discuss the mobile phone hardware and software,
starting from basics to chip level testing. The course aims at covering the
theory and practices behind mobile phone repairing. The practical sessions are
tailored to give the participants hands on experience of theory covered in
lectures.

Target Group : This course is aimed at individuals with a basic knowledge in electronics and
interested in repairing minor & major handset problems and intend to set up
their own mobile phone repair & service centers.

instruments

Further the participants will be given hands on experience in usage of basic test and measuring
instruments such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, function generators etc.

2. Workshop on Digital Electronics 03 days

Target Group:
People with good electronic knowledge and presently engaging in an electronic component related
circuit design

Course Contents:
Summary of basic digital electronics
Information on Digital IC families, Digital ICs, Logic Gates etc.
Applications of Logic Gates / Truth Tables / Boolean Algebra /Combinational Logic Circuits
Usage of Flip Flops / Counters / Timers / Multivibrators / Sequential Logic Circuits

3. Workshop on PCB Construction 03 days

Target Group:
People with good electronic knowledge and familiar with electronic components & circuit design
Course Content:
Construction of schematic drawings
Construction of layout drawings of a circuits

Further the participants will be given hands on experience on PCB Construction using screen printing.
The participants will also be trained on building and testing their own circuits. At the end of the
programme, the participants are expected to be familiar with circuit symbols and Orcad software.
