Dear Friends,
Once again we bring you greetings from Sunset Beach. Since this is an end-of-the-year letter, it will
talk more about finances than is usual.
In recent months we have been encouraged in the work of the Church. Many of our people are taking more responsibility than ever before, helping in planning and conducting the worship services, teaching classes, preparing and serving communion, bringing their friends and neighbors and providing the Church each Lord's Day with lovely flowers and plants.
We have had cause for rejoicing as one young family came to accept Christ. Both parents were baptized in our lovely ocean pool. They have two small children. Another couple came to place their membership with us, with their three small children. Both ofthese couples want to work and become a
very active part of the Church family.
The Bible Clubs are going well this year. Eleanor's, at Paumaulu, has 18-20 attenders and Ruth's, on Pupukea, has 10-12. For some of these children, this is their only opportunity to sludy and learn
God's Word.
In our last letter we talked about several of our co-workers here on Oahu. We did not mention Joe and Dora Sholtis who are still active in the congregation at Maile where Dennis and DeAnn Oertel are
now ministering. Nor did we speak of Charles and Henrietta Luttrell. The Plank family has come to serve at Palolo Valley, so Charles and Henrietta are assisting in the Filipino work in Waipahu,
teaching and preaching each Lord's Day.
Now concerning the finances. Totals for the year are given below. Eleanor'.s salary, after taxes, is now $335. She needs to increase this amount. An additional 15 people, sending $10 a month, would
enable her to take home about $435, which would make "getting by" a bit easier. Most of Eleanor's
housing is provided through the school.
Ruth and Glen receive $250 from the Sunset Beach Church. Through their other mission sources, they receive about $525 a month. Since they meet all of their own cost, housing, social security,
utilities, etc., this total ofabout $800 a month is not nearly enough to make ends meet. Glen does other work to support the family. Months when no jobs are available are difficult. Glen continues to lead
the work at Sunset, as he has for the past 33 years.
The Sunset Church also pays $250 per month to two of our young men, Russell and Maurice Saito, who have grown up in this congregation and have come back from Bible College, with their families,
to live and work.
We thank each of you for caring for and being a part of this work through prayer and support.
In His Service,
Owen Still-Mission

Aug. 31stAulani, one of our faithful high schoolers left for college in Mass. Since a 60 mile round trip is involved in going to the airport, you can see that
those were mobile days. Sept. 4th--Schooi began with 130 students enrolled.
Sept. 9thJuan Oliphant, seriously injured when struck by a car last spring, was back
in church at last, rejoicing with his family that the doctors have pro claimed him completely healed. As you can see, these have been good days, busy and encouraging. Church attendance
has been up--70-80, for the most part. One of our new mothers has requested instruc tion concerning baptism. She was first contacted through her son who attended Bible Club at Eleanor's. Two mothers contacted through the VBS have placed their sons in
the Christian School and are attending Church faithfully.
Now that the many travellers are safely home, we look forward to a good year with
both the Church and School. Eleanor remembers with pleasure and thanksgiving the hospitality received in California, Oregon, Oklahoma, Georgia, Kentucky, Ohio, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. She was thankful for each opportunity to tell of the work
and for each precious visit.

STILL IN HAWAII
59-578 Kam Highway
Dear Friends,
Our Lord has said to us: "In all thy ways, acknowledge him and he will direct thy paths.* We have been blessed this summer in seeing His direction.
Russell and Cherry Saito have been petitioning the State of Hawaii for the usage of a newly named park area to be used as a campground. They have been awaiting an answer for many, many months and have had delay after discouraging delay. Their final permission for use came through in August just days before our new teachers began arriving. Russ, Cherry, and little Melissa were able to move to the new camp area making it possible for the teachers to move into the house they were in which is right next door to the school. Since reasonably priced housing is almost non-existent, this move was a great blessing.
It is going to be a very big job, getting the park ready for use as a camp. The Saitos are acting as park managers and though the area must be open for public camping use, it will be possible to schedule our own camp activities for Hawaii Christian Camping and Conference Association there as well. This should prove to be a real blessing to the Christian camping program among th^ chinches., Gary Powell located a job with Hawaii Tropical Botanical Park on the island of Hawaii and moved there in the last of August. He will be missed a great deal in the faithful service he shared at Sunset Beach but we feel it was a very good opportunity for him. The Sunday before Gary left, he presented a sermon in song and word that was both beautiful and inspiring.
Don and Jo Roth are "fixing up" the tiny apartment where Gary lived while he was helping care for Mom Still. The place is badly run-down but Don is very able at building and this will provide them with living quarters as they return to be a vital part of the work at the Sunset Beach Church. Our two new teachers, Greg Luft from Portland, Oregon, and Dee Harlor from Columbus, Ohio, are entering right into the work of the Church and School with real enthusiasm. Greg is renting a room
about mile from the school and rides to and fro on his bike. With 130 students enrolled this fall,
coming primarily from Sunset Beach but also from Hauula, Waialua, Haleiwa and Mililani, the field is widening for reaching young lives for Christ. Attendance at Sunset Church is doing well with
between 75-85 much of the time. We are thankful for each person who comes to leam, to worship, to
grow and to try and seek God's direction for his or her life.
Please continue to keep us in your prayers, as we will keep you in ours. We enjoy your good letters, sharing your joys and sorrows. May God use us all to His honor and glory.
In Him,

Dear Friends,
TAMG
April and May wound up another good kindergarten year. Bible Club took a break for the summer too. Church attendance held up well through the spring and in summer with much better
tlian our usual summer numbers.
Three of my prospective kindergartners attended and are now coming faithfully to church with
their mothers and bringing other relatives and friends.
In June I enjoyed teaching a primary age group in the Sunset VBS with 79 kids enrolled.
June 27th I left Hawaii for a rush trip and brief visits- with friends and family. I . didn*t have time to viisit my brother in Canada, but after short stops in Redwood City, Redding, Portland and Tulsa (by Greyhound on a special $50 ticket!) I joined my sister, Rebecca
Kerby, to go with other ladies on a van ride to the convention (NACC) in Atlanta.
How good it was to have travelling companions! We attended the convention and Rebecca and
I were able to see relatives and friends in the Atlanta area. Wliile I stayed to visit some of the supporting churches there, Rebecca took the Greyhound to Florida to visit a new granddaughter. (We failed to see many friends we'd hoped to visit with at the convention,
nor could I contact them by phone.) Back on my Greyhound route, I was able to have an evening with Col. and Mrs. Nicholas (formerly ministering here on Oahu), before going on through Cincinnati, to Painesville, Willougby, and Salem,Ohio; then back to Cincinnati to "finish" my vist with Tommy's lovely family. All too soon it was time to head for California via Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and
Arizona.
How thankful I am to have been able to say "Hello!" to so many dear ones. But it was hard to say "Goodbye" each time. It was good to have a week with each of "my" three familesenjoying the company of my adult children and my twelve beautiful grandchildren.
I was able to speak about the Hawaiian work thirteen times, usually to classes, besides
personal visits with individual supporters. Some drove me many miles to visit people interested in tlie work. I was given food, and lodging and warm encouragement more times than I can tell.
On August 26, 1946, I first came to Hawaii--and it was on August 27th when I returned this time to begin teaching my 28th kindergarten class with the Sunset Beach Church of Christ and
Cliristian School.
they are.
Fourteen of the 131 students are in my class, and a very challenging group
Two new teachers are working with us. Greg Luft from Portland teaches 7th grade. Dee Harlor from Ohio, also works with 7th grade and teaches music and reading to other grades.
Bible Club is starting up again. Evening services are being attended at least once a week at Sunset, Hauula, and Waialua. It's very hard to get people to come regularly to evening services here. I know this is true in many of your areas too.
It's a great blessing to have the Roth's living at Sunset Beach again and very active in the church. Tliey are enjoying living near their son Don and his family - which includes
a new granddaughter.
Pray with us for greater spiritual growth and for new learners who will accept Christ.
Thank you for the inspiration you are to me in seeing and hearing about your faithful work for the Lord. "I thank God upon every remembrance of you."
In Christian love.

Dear Friends,
Our long, dry summer is running on into a long, dry fall. For the first time in the history of the Islands, we are under mandatory wateruse restriction. The play field in back of the Church looks like a dusty desert with wide cracks drawing strange lines across its width. We are praying that we will soon get some real rain. The School is, as usual, buzzing with activities. Sports Day was a popular event. Parent' Night is coming up next week. With 130 child
ren involved, every day is exciting.
The work of the Church goes forward. This next week we're having a fellowship potluck and are expecting a big crowd; besides a good group from Sunset, friends from Hauula, Palolo, East Oahu, Wahiawa and Waialua are planning to join with us. A talented group called the Covenant Players will be presenting a drama based on Col. 3; 17.
Bible Clubs are back in progress. Twenty-five attended the first session--!! at Powells, 14 at Sprankles. Several of the Bible Club children are hindered from attending church an;>nvhcre but are permitted to come to this time of learning and sharing. In Pupukea the lessons are from the life of Christ, while Sunset's children are beginning again
in Genesis. We are thankful for each child who is willing and eager to
know more of God's Word.
Wednesday evening Prayer Meeting at Sunset is being well received. A small number meet earlier that evening and enjoy practicing some choir numbers. Our ladies are beginning to meet again regularly to work on projects and share a time of fellowship and spiritual growth. Don and Jo Roth are active in serving the congregation in these areas. They are
a wonderful blessing to the work here at Sunset.
We pray God's blessing on each of you. We rejoice in the knowledge that you remember us in your prayers as well. May we all be used to the
glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In Him,
