I am using this site to create lesson plans and put more interesting videos and interactive media in our classroom, but I have discovered a number of things that can be done from home too. If you go to this website and click on Parents, there are tools for you and your child that might help. http:// www.discoveryeducation.c om/aboutus If you do not have access to the internet, call me at school and we can talk about your options. I wanted to share this amazing website for students, parents

is homework help in all subjects for students on Discovery Learning and the Math section is very complete. There is help with all subjects. There are also interesting and informative articles for parents but what I really like are the puzzles. They are FUN! You can create a puzzle and print it out for your child. I did one and called it TV shows. It was a find-a-word game and the program did all the work in minutes. Think of the peace before dinner and the fun breaks from homework that kids can have with these puzzles. I actually had fun putting

Technology is outpacing our ability to process information. This intimidates people. There are some new applications that make storage much easier for the consumer. Googles cloud service is one of these. The cloud may not be part of your everyday use but you can store lots of information on other servers and manage files without using up your own memory. Be sure to check internet speed- sending large files to a cloud service could take a long time. Playing games and streaming movies can eat up your monthly data allocation, so start cautiously and enjoy!

STUDT TIP OF THE MONTH

(Teacher's Planning Day)! October 30th Piarte Costume Parade (Parenst invited to come and bring booty!)

Do not follow the crowd. You are the only person in the world that is you, so if you are the only person like you in the entire world, why follow the crowd? Do your own thing don't let the popular girls/boys tell you what to do. Just try to be yourself if people try to change you they're not very good friends. If you see everyone in your class has a special hair cut or hair do don't ask for one because everyone has one. Only do something if you want to because when you have originality it creates more friends.

Bilingual Education
Recently I read an article titled Does Bilingual Education work? What I learned was interesting and Id like to share it with you. There is a lot of debate about whether or not bilingual education program or the English only program works better for students who do not speak English. Those who oppose bilingual education say that it would be better to these students to learn English first, and then proceed to the rest of the curriculum. They also argue that even when students are in a bilingual education program they still drop out of school, so the program does not work. However, those who support bilingual education argue that research has proven that students earn higher grades through the program, but that they are short staffed. They also admit that students, though a lesser number of them, drop out of school, but that it is for many reasons and that typically more stay in school because of the bilingual education program. Before reading this article I had no idea what Bilingual Education was, to be honest I thought it was a program where students learn two languages at school. After reading this article I began to wonder why this subject is hardly ever brought up in education circles and in the media. I think that Bilingual Education is a logical and proven program to help students succeed. I believe it is important for non-English speaking students to learn English, but they should not have to struggle and fall behind in every other subject simply because they do not understand the language. In the future I would like to work in an ESE classroom, so, I started to compare how students who do not speak English can be looked at with the same mentality as an educator does to ESE students. These students are smart and have something to contribute to society, but it is up to me to speak their language and make sure that they are being taught in a way that makes sense to them. Why should a student suffer and feel defeated in school simply because they do not speak our language? In my classroom, I would strive to ensure that all of my students are given the time, tools and resources to achieve, whether that be an English tutor, a physical therapist or that they have someone in their classroom that speaks their language so they do not fall behind, and most importantly, feel like they belong. If you have any ideas about how I can make my classroom better and more inviting for bilingual students, please feel free to contact me.
