A proposal for the creation of a Chief Digital O"cer within an Archdiocesan O"ce for Digital Strategy as an 18#month pilot

A Digital Strategy for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia was initially drafted for Archbishop Charles Chaput as a thought experiment about the possibilities of digital strategy to revitalize Catholic community identity and better share the story of the faith. This proposal continues that conversation by outlining a specic institutional mechanism to drive institutional and communal innovation.!

Description of Role!
The Chief Digital O"cer crafts and stewards the brand and identity of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, enabling robust witness to the Catholic community across Greater Philadelphia through robust web and social infrastructure. Specically, the Chief Digital O"cer oversees Archdiocesan web, email, social, mobile, audio, and video channels.!

Duties & Responsibilities!
Craft The Roadmap for Catholic Community in the Digital Age as a public digital strategy plan of the Archdiocese, issuing public quarterly progress reports.!

If the Church stays wrapped up in itself, it wi! age. And if I had to choose between a wounded Church that goes out onto the streets and a sick, withdrawn church, I would denitely choose the rst one. "

Develop and ensure consistency of Archdiocesan visual and aesthetic brand across web and social properties, with style guide for universal use of logo, colors, and aesthetic.! Advise on brand, communications, and digital policies and practices relating to Archdiocesan and parish digital strategy.!

Launch, maintain, and enable access to web presence for public#facing content communications that evangelize, catechize, and provides information.! Launch and maintain Archbishops Portal featuring events, calendar, writings, video, audio as a means to sanctify and govern.! Engage and develop relationships with pastors, parishes, associates, and partners to emphasis Archdiocesan services and digital literacy.! Maintain weekly public calendar of o"ce hours for pastors, associates, and diocesan sta$ to schedule for digital literacy and consultative guidance.! Serve as in#house resource for o"ces looking to create, improve, and maintain specic web presences.! Launch and maintain Archdiocesan iOS mobile and tablet application.!

Creation of Archbishops Portal A public#facing web presence conveying the Archbishops presence across the Catholic community through his appearances, Masses, writings, and speeches.! 5. Creation of Archdiocesan Email Newsletter & SMS system Launch of a centralized email and text messaging communications system for Catholic and those exploring the faith to receive news, event, and apostolate information.!

An Archdiocesan Enterprise Social Network Launch an asynchronous internal communications system to reduce administrative email burden and foster cross# departmental relationships and communication.! 11. Catholic News & Community Portal Creation of attractive, public#facing News & Community portal driven by parish, school, and community#submitted content to share the story of Catholic life across the region.! 12. Universal Archdiocesan and Parish Online Giving Implementation of online giving as an option across 100 percent of Archdiocesan o"ces and parishes in order to increase giving consistency and donation rates.! 13. Catholic Leadership & Literacy Series Creation of quarterly Archdiocesan workshop to engage o"ces, pastors, and associates promoting best practices with digital communications both in and outside the faith.! 14. Partners & Sponsorship Attract new revenue from Archdiocesan partners and supporters through access to relevant content and communications channels.!
