Environmental Pollution

What is environment pollution? Environmental pollution is the presence of substances and conditions that will affect the health of human being. For example, environmental pollution happens when the air and water supply is polluted. Nowadays, environmental pollution happened all around the world and it will risk to our health. Pollution has brings a big impact to our lives and some of us suffer from many diseases and sickness caused by environmental pollution. Air pollution, water pollution and sound pollution are examples of environmental pollution. Air pollution is a comman problem that is happening in our country. Air pollution happens when chemical substances such as carbon monoxide, CFC, carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide that spreads and contaminate the air. These chemical substances are produced by human activities such as smoke produced by vehicles and factories. Air pollution can bring a great impact to human health and it can also affects and destroy the ecosystems. How do we solve the problem of air pollution? We can start by planting more trees. Trees will helps in keeping our air fresh when the trees absorb carbon dioxide in the process of photosynthesis.Factories and power stations are provided with tall chimneys which carry smoke and waste gases high up into the air. In some industries, to settle down pollutants, wastes are sprayed with jets of water in scrubbers, before they reach the chimneys. In a few modern industries electric current is used to check smoke and dust particles. Nowsdays, cars are fitted with a special device called a catalytic converter. The catalytic converter converts hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide into harmless water vapour and carbon dioxide. All around the world, countries are fighting to keep their water clean. Whether its streams, rivers, lakes or the ocean, countries have taken great measures to maintain a high quality of water for human consumption. Water pollution happens when industrial wastes such as oil spills, acid rain and waste from factories contaminate the water. The oil and wastes from the factories spread over the surface of the water and it kill fishes and animals. The dead bodies of the fishes and animals will slowly contaminate the water and become poisoned. Human will become sick and get diseases after drinking the contaminated water. Thus, we must try to solve the problem before it ever reaches our water source. First, we must control the discharge of the plants and factories and

avoid from throwing wastes in any forms such as toxic, oil or garbage into the streams, rivers, lakes or the ocean. When the water is polluted, it can be send to the plant and be treated and recycled again. Sound pollution is an exposure of people to a high level of sound that are annoying, stressful or damaging to our ears. There are many causes of sound pollution. The main source of sound pollution is transportation systems especially motor vehicle. The other sources are aircraft noise and rail noise. Besides transportation noise, other sources are office equipment, factory machinery, appliances, power tools, lighting and audio entertainment systems. Construction equipment also produces sound pollution. Due to heavy industrialization, exposure of high level of noise gives rise to stress factor in modern life. It may leads to many hazards. The effect of noise on health depends on both, loudness and frequency. Any source producing sound levels of more than 80 to 90 db (decibel) for more than eight hours is harmful to human ear. There are some ways to control the sound pollution. Firstly, locate the building as far as possible from noise source. In addition, trees like ashok, neem, coconut etc. can be planted to provide some absorption of sound. Besides that, laws should be made for controlling noise hazards at city level. Lastly, people can be educated through radio, TV, street play etc. about sound pollution. In conclusion, recycle should be practice constantly and children should be taught on how to recycle in school. We should always lower the volume during activities to avoid sound pollution. All of us should play our roles and cooperate with each other to avoid pollution and keep our environment clean from time to time. A clean environment is very important for us and our future generation to live a happy and healthy life. Prepared By : Chu Lee Ming Chong Wai Mun Teoh Jing Shan Yap Tsin Huey
