Location of Festival
Youth bands, choirs, orchestras and folk
dance groups are invited to come to Ba-
varia, Germany to participate in OIK’s
International Youth Music Festival every
July.
The Festival in 2010 is the 30th and will
take place from 21 July till 28 July in the
Main-Spessart County.
The Main-Spessart district is located near the
baroque town of Wuerzburg, with the Main river
meandering through the lovely landscape at the
foothills of the Spessart Mountains. The region
is well known for its friendly people, its beautiful
forests, rivers, castles, fortresses, its picturesque
villages and towns built in medieval time.
The international airport of Frankfurt am Main is
within 3 hours driving time.
Orchestras
The Main-Spessart County was chosen for the
ninth time as the festival site. The festival already
took place here in 1983, 1986, 1989, 1992,
1995, 1998, 2001, 2004 and in 2007.
Its friendly local people will offer ­Bavarian hospi-
tality and “Gemütlichkeit” to youth music groups
from all over the world, giving them the oppor-
tunity to present their talents in public perform-
ances.
Towns and villages like Karlstadt, Lohr,
Gemünden, Wernfeld, Marktheidenfeld, Erlen-
bach, Urspringen, Gräfendorf, Eussenheim,
Kreuzwertheim, Frammersbach, Partenstein, Kar-
bach and others together with their local youth
groups and local music groups will welcome the
foreign visitors making their stay enjoyable, suc-
cessful and full of new impressions.
The participating groups will have the chance to
meet fellow young musicians from Germany and
from other countries, for an exchange of musi-
cal experience and last but not least to enjoy an
international youth meeting to be remembered for
long.
Accommodation
The music groups will mainly be accommodated
with German families which allows for a true
encounter programme.
At a surcharge groups can be booked into small
local hotels and inns.
Festival character
The music festival will take place as an inter-
national meeting through music and not as a
competition. However, every participating music
group will receive a remembrance token of the
festival at the end. All participating conductors,
band and choir leaders will meet to discuss musi-
cal viewpoints and exchange experiences.
Press cuttings and recommendations by former
participating youth music groups can be sent on
request.
The 31st festival will take place in
mid July 2011 in the town of Ansbach.
The Festival programme will be similar
every year.

The festival includes full board on 7 days, trans-
fers from and to Frankfurt airport or train station,
bus transportation during the week, courier serv-
ice, all programme arrangements.
Not included is the cost for a van if one is need-
ed for the instruments.

OIK is a non-profit organisation with the aim to
promote international understanding through fam-
ily stays, study tours and international encounters.

If a group travels with their own bus the price will
go down by € 90.00 per person.
The application form should be sent to OIK as
early as possible to ensure a place in the festival.
With the application a deposit of € 70.00 per
person is due.
Groups must bring along their own musical
equipment as it is very difficult to hire music in-
struments in Germany.
Groups must have health insurance and be in-
sured against accident, liability, damage and loss
of luggage and instruments.
For the promotion of the music festival we can
provide a PowerPoint presentation on CD as well
as brochures on the area.
A brief summary of this festival brochure in Ger-
man, Dutch, French, Italian, Spanish and Japa-
nese can be sent on request.

The Kreisjugendring Main-Spessart is the vol-

untary grouping of youth organisations in the
county.

Participation fees
Festival participants / musicians will be
accommodated in host families.
Pre- or post festival programmes in Ger-
many and other European countries are
possible (with concerts and sightseeing
arrangements).
If you cannot attend the OIK Festival because
of the dates, we can arrange a tailor made tour
with concerts for your group (also for adult music
groups!) at other times of the year.
