Given my announcement last weekend of my new assignment which begins January 1st, I will ask in a special way for your prayers, both for me and for the parish. Whenever I have left a parish, I have always taken a part of that community with me. They remain forever in my thoughts & in my heart. I know that there are ties made that will keep us connected in some ways. And I know that youve helped me grow in my time here. St. Leo the Great is a parish of about 2100 households. It has a school as do many of the parishes in that area. It clusters with St. Thomas More in Brooklyn and St. Charles Borromeo in Parma. I know several priests who have been Parochial Vicars (what we used to call Associates) there, including my cousin, Fr. Dan Schlegel. I know I have big shoes to fill as the present Pastor, Fr. Russ Lowe, begins his new assignment at Our Lady of Angels. As was the case when Fr. Uhler left St. Stephen, the Personnel Board will visit St. Stephen and ask for your input as they search for a new Pastor. I will give you more information about that as soon as it is available to me. I will offer the second part of my presentation on the Liturgy of the Hours this Sunday at 10am, so please join us, even if you were not able to make it last Sunday. Next Sunday we will pray Morning Prayer together after the 9am Mass & anyone is welcome to join us. I do pray that your Thanksgiving will be blessed. Please join us for Mass at 9am that morning so that we can give proper Eucharistic thanks to the One who is the Giver of all we have and are. Please note that there will not be Mass on Friday morning after Thanksgiving and that the Parish Office will be closed.

By this time we have already celebrated Thanksgiving with all of the helpers and guests at Meals and More on last Wednesday. This is our first big feast since Anne Rogers retired so I am a bit nervous about it as I write this column. Id also like to thank you on behalf of West Salem Outreach. Thanks again and may God bless your many acts of charity. Bulletin Advertising Campaign Coming Soon! Jeff Thomas representing Diocesan Publications (our Bulletin Publisher) will be at the parish soon. He will be renewing present advertisements and seeking new ones. If interested, please call the parish office. Or you may contact Jeff directly at 614738-6150 orjthomas@diocesan.com . We feel this is an excellent service and that the sponsors get good coverage with their ads. THANKS TO YOU and DIOCESAN PUBLICATIONS, the bulletin is published weekly at no cost to the parish. Second Collection Today The Collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) provides funding for groups that make lasting change and uplift the poor in the United States. In the last five years, over 36% of CCHDs grants have gone to improving education, supporting economic development, and improving housing in low-income neighborhoods. Help us continue to defend human dignity and take poverty off the map. Give generously to the CCHD Collection. Red Cross Needs Local Volunteers! The Red Cross is looking for volunteers each blood drive at St. Stephen to spend a few hours in the Canteen helping with refreshments. Parishioners asked to help Philippine Typhoon victims Cleveland Bishop Richard Lennon, in response to a request from Catholic Relief Services, is asking the 185 parishes of the Diocese to offer a special, second collection the weekend of November 30 - December 1, 2013.The funds will be sent to Catholic Relief Services, the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic Community in the United States. The funds will benefit the Philippine people who are victims of super typhoon Haiyan. With wind speeds of 195 mph, it is now recorded as the strongest tropical cyclone on record to have made landfall. An estimated 9.5 million people are suffering from the destruction. Donors are advised to make checks payable to their individual parish (memo - Typhoon Relief). The parishes are then being asked to submit a totaled single check to the Diocese Finance Office made payable to "Diocese of Cleveland." As we prepare to conclude This Year of Faith ---What is Faith? Faith is knowledge and trust. It has seven characteristics: 1) Faith is a sheer gift of God which we receive when we fervently ask for it. 2) Faith is the supernatural power necessary if we are to attain salvation. 3) Faith requires free will and clear understanding of the divine invitation. 4) Faith is absolutely certain, because Jesus guarantees it. 5) Faith is incomplete unless it leads to active love. 6) Faith grows when we listen carefully to Gods word and enter a lively exchange with him in prayer. 7) Faith gives us even now, a foretaste of the joy of heaven. (From the Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church) (Youcat #21) Ladies Guild On December 2nd at 6:30pm there will be a Christmas Potluck Dinner in the Hall! Bring a $5 wrapped gift exchange item with a White Elephant/Re-Gift theme. All are welcomed to join us for this epic good time! Good food and much laughter, bring a friend! NO PSR on December 1, 2013 The weekend after Thanksgiving has traditionally been a day off to allow our Catechists to visit with family. Pope Francis comments on visions. VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Purported visions of Mary, if taken in the wrong spirit, can sow confusion and distance people from the Gospel, Pope Francis said. Curiosities distance people "from the Gospel, from the Holy Spirit, from peace and hope, from God's glory and God's beauty," the pope said Nov. 14, 2013 during a homily at morning Mass in the Vatican guesthouse, where he lives. "Jesus says that the kingdom of God doesn't come in a way that attracts attention," the pope said, according to a report by Vatican Radio. Pope Francis reflected on the day's Gospel reading from Luke (17:2025), in which the Pharisees ask Jesus when the kingdom of God will come. Jesus answers that the "coming of the kingdom of God cannot be observed," and tells his disciples not to "run in pursuit" of signs of his second coming. "Curiosity pushes us to want to hear that the Lord is here or over there, or it makes us say, 'Well, I know a visionary who receives letters from Our Lady, messages from Our Lady,'" the pope said. But Mary is "not a postmaster of the post office sending out messages every day." "The kingdom of God is among us," he said. "Don't look for strange things, don't seek novelties with this worldly curiosity.
