VOLUNTARY HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS IN INDIA

Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh (Indian Leprosy Association) is an old and prestigious body of people committed towards treatment, rehabilitation of leprosy patients and elimination of leprosy from India. Abbreviated as HKNS, Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh was founded on 27th January 1925 with the name of Indian Council of British Empire Leprosy Relief

Association (BELRA)
The objectives are: to carry out research on various aspects of leprosy; to provide short courses of training , treatment of leprosy; to carry out propaganda.

Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh (Indian Leprosy Association) came into existence on the 19th of August 1949 Present Activities of Hind Kusht Nivaran Sangh (Indian Leprosy Association): 1. Production and distribution of health education and publicity material on leprosy. 2. Publication of quarterly Indian Journal of Leprosy and bi-monthly news bulletin Kusht Vinashak for leprosy workers and the general public. 3. Production and distribution of leprosy seals to create awareness about leprosy and help other organisations in raising funds for their work through the sale of these seals. 4. Observance of Anti-Leprosy Day on the 30th January every year to create mass awareness about leprosy. 5. Conducting training courses of nine months duration for physiotherapy technicians of at two leprosy training centres (Naini, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh and Purulia, West Bengal). 6. Organising the All India Leprosy Workers Conference and Regional Leprosy Workers Conferences in collaboration with the state branches and other voluntary organisations 7. Providing assistance to voluntary organisations and leprosy patients. 8. Maintaining a house called Shanthi Illam at Vellore (Tamil Nadu) where leprosy patients who come for surgical treatment at the Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore are provided free boarding and lodging facilities.

9. Running of two mobile leprosy treatment units in two districts of Delhi ( north-east and west) with funds provided by the Government of India. 10 .Organising exhibitions on leprosy in Delhi.

Family planning association of India Family Planning Association of India was established in 1949 It promotes access to Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH)information and services related to family planning, safe abortions, HIV/AIDS and sexuality to poor, marginalised and vulnerable populations including young people. FPA India has a presence in 17 states of India and one Union Territory.

VISION FPA India envisions sexual and reproductive health for all as a human right, including gender equality leading to alleviation of poverty, population stabilization and sustainable development.

5.Scheme of industrial co-operatives to help lower/middle class women in urban areas to supplement family income. 6.Short stay homes for women and girls 7.Family councelling centres.

8.Condensed courses of education for girls/women-The scheme aims to provide educational oppurtunities to girls/women above 15 years who are either school drop outs or couldnt join mainstream educational system. All India Womens Conference

All India Womens Conference (AIWC) was founded in 1927. It is an organisation dedicated to the upliftment and betterment of women and children.

VISION ACTIVITIES Emancipation, Education and Empowerment of Women To empower women and prepare them for taking up leadership roles.

Literacy and Education Skill based literacy programmes for women are conducted in remote areas as well as urban slums, with a view to empower them economically capacity building among women The AIWC-IGNOU Community College, registered with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), offers Certificate/Diploma and Associate degree programmes/courses, in the fields of computer technology, beauty culture, textile block printing, cutting and tailoring and Ayurveda. Enabling in the process school dropouts and other under privileged children to return to mainstream education Providing education and day care services to street children Computer Training Centres run by AIWC branches offer vocational courses for

Health, Family Welfare and Population Provides community health services through Mobile Health Vans reaching areas where there are negligible facilities for health care Provides special care to expectant and nursing mothers, and children

Educates women about health, nutrition, sanitation, hygiene and family welfare Organises sensitization programmes, ((identifying alternate vocations if necessary) to safeguard health of rural working women (eg. beedi workers) children. Actively supports the cause of leprosy patients by providing day care centres for their Organizes Anemia camps to detect, treat and follow up action

Socio-Economic Programmes Vocational Training is provided to women in dairy farming, food processing, solar drying of farm products, and home based ventures with locally available raw materials Leadership/Capacity building through training programmes Micro credit propagation through self help groups

The Tuberculosis Association of India .It was set up in February, 1939 as a registered society by incorporating the King Emperor's Anti-Tuberculosis Fund and King George Thanks-giving (Anti-Tuberculosis) Fund.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES :


The prevention, control, treatment and relief of tuberculosis.

The encouragement of and assistance in the establishment throughout India of State Associations having objectives similar in whole or in part to those of the Association. The affiliation or control of and the rendering of assistance to any institution having objectives similar in whole or in part to the objects of the Association.

The undertaking of the Research and Investigation on subjects concerning tuberculosis and allied chest diseases. objectives. ACTIVITIES The doing of all such things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above

Organizing TB seal campaigns every year to raise funds.

The Association has also brought out an educative flip charts for use by medico-social workers for the health education programme through the grants-in-aid of the Central TB Division.

The Association is publishing a Souvenir every year on occasion of the inauguration of the TB Seal Campaign, which is inaugurated by the President of India (Patron of Association) on 2nd October (Gandhi Jayanti) at Rashtrapati Bhawan. The Association also organizes with the help of Delhi TB Association street plays and Nukad Nataks to propagate the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program / Directly Observed Treatement Short Course (RNTCP / DOTs) programme.

Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) IRCS was established in 1920 under the Indian Red Cross Society Act and incorporated under Parliament Act XV of 1920. The act was last amended in 1992 and of rules were formed in 1994. The IRCS has 35 State / Union Territories Branches with their more than 700 districts and sub district branches. His Excellency The President of India is the President and Hon'ble Union Health Minister is the Chairman of the Society. The Aims of IRCS: Promotion of health Prevention of disease Mitigation of suffering among people Relief work : Red cross society mobilizes all its resources during times of disasters like earthquakes,flood,drought,epidemics etc. Milk and medical supplies: A number of hospitals,dispensaries,maternity and child welfare centres,schools and orphanages receive assistance from the society every year.The assistance is given in the form of medicines,milk powder,vitamins etc Armed forces: The care of sick and wounded among the members of the forces is one of the prime objectives of red cross. Maternal and child welfare services: There is a bureau of maternity and child welfare which provides technical assistance and financial aid for schemes for establishing model maternity and child welfare centres. There are maternity and child welfare centres either directly run by or affiliated by Indian red cross.

Family planning: Several states in India are running family planning clinics under the auspices of Indian red cross. Blood bank and first aid: There are blood banks directly run by red cross in many states.The St. John ambulance association of India is a part of red cross provides training in first aid, home nursing and allied subjects to general public.
