Lesson Plan: ED TECH I Lesson Focus: As an English teacher, it is necessary to notice when students have common issues among

grammar and other writing practices. Through the grading of papers, we can see the common issues that arise throughout the papers in each given class. The focus of this lesson will be on reviewing sentence structure and the use of the comma in a 9th grade English class after returning essays back to the class. (*Attached to this lesson is also review of common misused homophones and common misspelled i e words, in the case there is e!tra time within the lesson." The students should have already been taught the structure of a sentence and how to use a comma in #th and or $th grade(s". Along with reviewing sentence structure and the use of a comma, % will teach the use of a semicolon. Although % will be teaching this to a 9th grade English class, this lesson can also be beneficial to grades even higher than 9th grade and can be used for review purposes. The standards of this lesson will meet the &ommon &ore 'tate English 'tandards for 9th and ()th grades with review on #th and $th grade standards as well. As a class we will review sentence structure and the use of a comma in a sentence along with *some of the difficult homophones that have stumped many of the students in the class and have become reoccurring misspelled words in their essays. Pro#i ing In*or+ation: After introducing the lesson, we will review* ,.- :our parts of sentence structure needed to go over* nouns, verbs, ad1ectives, and adverbs. These will be taught with the white board with student volunteers. .ouns: person, place, or thing. 5roper nouns are capitali/ed. $no%le ge o* (esults: Through an individual activity and a small collaborative 2ui/ with a partner, students should regain the knowledge of sentence structure and the use of a comma along with gaining the knowledge of the use of a semicolon. -uring their online activity and practice 2ui/, % will be scanning the room to keep the class on track and to gauge their knowledge. Hefore closing the 2ui/, % will ask to see each group>s test scores to make sure students retained the knowledge of the lesson, although the 2ui/ will not be actually graded. This will also ensure that each group does the assigned work, as it will be part of their participation for the class. To further evaluate the class>s knowledge of sentence structure, comma and semicolon usage, students will be assigned a short,write for homework. 'tudents who complete their homework correctly will be rewarded on the ne!t 2ui/ with two (." e!tra bonus points. 'tudents will also be told that they can correct their essays on what was taught reviewed today for an e!tra bonus homework assignment if they would like the e!tra credit. after students finish their collaborative online 2ui/. After possible 2uestions, % will assign the homework and tell them about the e!tra credit opportunity available. &etho o* )ssess+ent: 'tudents will be asked to review sentence structure, commas, semicolons, *% E words and homophones in a homework assignment. The assignment will be a .I) word short write about a desired topic of choice as an online blog entry. 'tudents will be asked to circle each noun, underline each verb, and double underline each adverb used in their short,writes and use at least one semicolon correctly in their writing. %f students hand this assignment in on time and receive a ())J on this homework, they will receive . e!tra bonus points on the ne!t 2ui/. 'tudents will also have a week to edit their essays for an e!tra credit homework assignment.
