Comparison of Conventional & PID Tuning of Sliding Mode Fuzzy Controller for BLDC Motor Drives

ABSTRACT
Brushless DC motors are widely used for many industrial applications because of their high efficiency, high torque and low volume. In this paper, a chattering free sliding mode control for a brushless DC Motor including PID part with a fuzzy tunable gain (PIDSMFC) is designed. The main idea is that the robustness property of SMC and good response characteristics of PID are combined with fuzzy tuning gain approach to achieve more acceptable performance. Hence,

here. Simulation study has been done in Matlab/Simulink environment shows the improvements of the results compare to conventional SMFC. Finally, the result shows that the PIDSMFC approach has minimum overshoot, and minimum transient and steady state parameters, which shows the more effectiveness and efficiency than conventional SMFC model to control the speed of the motor.

Description:

BLDC motors attain an extremely significant place as electric drives finding applications in wide range of areas such as automotives, industrial controls, automation and robotics, aviation etc. For a BLDC motor the controller plays a very vital role in influencing its performance for applications concerning load variations or in positioning applications. This has resulted in an increased interest in intelligent and adaptive controllers. The proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller is widely used in many control applications because of its simplicity and effectiveness. Though the use of PID control has been a long history in the field of control engineering, the three controller gain parameters, proportional gain KP, integral gain KI, and derivative gain KD, are usually fixed. The disadvantage of PID controller is poor capability of dealing with system uncertainty, i.e., parameter variations and external disturbance. Robustness has gained more and more attention. .

Proposed System merits

Sliding mode control (SMC) is one of the popular strategies to deal with uncertain control

disturbances. Various applications of SMC have been conducted, such as robotic manipulators, aircrafts, DC motors, chaotic systems, and so on.

ADVANTAGES:
PIDSMFC based BLDC motor drive system track the error and makes the actual speed follow the reference speed when the system is subjected to step change in reference speed, sudden load disturbance and parameter variations.
