McKoy English 2- 4th Block 18 November 2013 The Perks of Gay Marriage A good majority of my friends are gay, and they do not have the rights to get married. My best friend is a homosexual, and she, being as sweet as a teddy bear, cannot get married in most of The United states, a so called free country. Marriage is about love, not hate. We all fall in love at one point, and who that person is should not matter to anyone. Ask yourself, does a gay marriage truly affect me? Other peoples happiness should have no effect on you. Some of the nicest people in life, like most of my best friends, should have the right to be happy. Homosexuals should have the right to marry. Homosexuals need the right to marry. Homosexuals deserve the right to marry. Homosexuals will have the right to marry. I believe that gay marriage should be allowed in each state for the following reasons: more kids would be adopted, people would be less depressed, more people would be happy, it could help the economy, and it will help decrease discrimination. Homosexuals should have the right to get married because there would be more kids adopted. Right now most states will not let a same sex couple adopt a child, but if gay marriage was legal, then homosexuals would be able to adopt. In the article Same-Sex Adoption Should Be Supported for the Sake of Encouraging Adoption, the author, Kerry Hosking, says For the sake of many thousands of children in state-funded facilities, the issue of gay adoption must be resolved using logic and not biased opinion. Many would argue that two-parent heterosexual families can provide a child with a more stable upbringing. This solution would certainly reduce

Del Castillo 2 the number of beautiful children who are in need of loving homes, but reality clearly shows that the number of heterosexual couples is exceeded by the number of children who patiently wait for them (Hosking). Kerry basically believes that there are thousands of children in foster homes, and very few people who are willing to adopt them, so homosexuals should be able to adopt them if they want to. People need to put their differences aside in order to give homes to children who dont have one. Homosexuals need the right to get married because if gay marriage was allowed in each state, then people would be less depressed, and more people would be happy. Right now there are a great amount of people who are depressed because they do not have the right to marry who they love. Imagine being stripped away from the right of marrying the one you love. Its pretty depressing. Now imagine if you were given the right to marry the one you love. It would be an amazing feeling. People who are able to get married are usually happier. If same sex marriage was legal, then people would be more cheerful because they would have the right to marry who they love; therefore, influencing other peoples mood into a more uplifting one. Its a chain reaction! More happiness equals less sadness. Homosexuals deserve the right to get married because it could help the economy, and decrease discrimination. In the article Gay Marriage Should Be Legal, James Kellard said Homosexuals getting married really has no effect on anybody but themselves. Although with all the extra weddings, gifts, and honeymoons, it would actually be a good way to stimulate the economy (Kellard). He basically said if homosexuals were allowed to get married, then there would be more wedding, and purchasing of anything related to weddings; thus, helping our economy. Right now by not allowing same sex marriage, it is basically a type of

discrimination. Kerry Hosking said Discrimination has no place in society for any reason, just

Del Castillo 3 as it is not tolerated in the workplace. The sexual preferences of consenting adults have no relevance to the alarming statistics which show the many precious children whose only wish it is to have a place to call home (Hosking). She is justifying that some people cannot adopt children purely because they are gay. This is discrimination. In the article Gay Marriage Is Protected by the US Constitution, David Boies said Just like skin color, sexual orientation is an immutable characteristic, so the gay minority must be protected from discrimination just as racial minorities are protected (Boies). We are all people of The United States of America, regardless of our sexual orientation. Homosexuals are just like everyone else. They pay taxes, and everything else a straight person does. The only difference is that they like their own gender. Basically by not allowing gay marriage, it is discrimination against homosexuals; nevertheless, if we allowed same sex marriage, then it would decrease discrimination. Love is like the ocean, it is as free as can be. Why should we confine something that is supposed to be so lively and free? Homosexuals should have the right to get married. Homosexuals need the right to get married. Homosexuals deserve the right to get married. Homosexuals will have the right to get married. We need to let love be love, and not condemn it to just homosexuals. We can reduce discrimination, depression, and give homes to children, if we just allowed same sex marriage. If YOU were fine with gay marriage, then other people would be fine with gay marriage; as a result, gay marriage would be legal. YOU have the power for someone elses happiness. We all deserve the right to marry, so let us make the ocean free.
