Instructions for addressing the Board and Requesting Agenda Items


If members of the public would like to speak about an item on the agenda, a Speaker Sheet should be completed giving the number of the agenda item, or if wishing to speak to an item not on the agenda, stating the topic on which they wish to speak. The sheet should be presented to the Secretary to the Board prior to the start of the meeting or prior to the start of the Public Comments section of the agenda. Individual speakers will be allowed three minutes to address the Board. The Board shall limit the total time for each agenda item to 20 minutes. AGENDA ITEMS may be addressed at the time the Board considers the agenda item OR during Public Comments; NON AGENDA ITEMS may be addressed during Public Comments; PUBLIC HEARINGS may be addressed at the time of the Public Hearing. If a member of the public would like an item placed on the agenda, please contact the district office. In accordance with Education Code 35145.5, the Board cannot enter into a formal discussion or make a decision on any matter not on this agenda during this meeting. The Board may take action to refer any subject discussed in a presentation at this Board meeting to a later meeting. The Board requests that all pagers and cell phones be turned off or placed on silent mode as a courtesy to those in the audience. A complete agenda packet is available for review at the District Office, 600 Temple Avenue, Camarillo CA Monday through Thursday prior to the meeting. F. Pledge of Allegiance G. Recognitions and Presentations 1. Spotlight on Education Students from La Mariposa School will share their activities at their school with the Board of Trustees.

2. Save Our Kids Music (SOKM) Program The SOKM community will present the Board of Trustees a check in the amount of $21,006.11 for the Youth Arts Academy and the instrumental music program.

3. Red Ribbon Week Essay Contest Winners The District's Grand Prize Winners of the Camarillo Optimist Club's sponsored Grade Level Essay Writing Contest held during Red Ribbon Week, October 21 through October 25, 2013, will be shared with the Board. Gift cards were presented to the students on November 14th at El Descanso. The Camarillo Noontime Optimist proudly sponsored this contest.

4. Retired Employee Recognition The Board acknowledges those retiring from the District in the month of November and thanks them for their years of dedicated service to our children.

H. Information 1. Rancho Campana High School Presentation (D) The Board will hear information from Dr. Gabe Soumakian on Rancho Campana High School, the new Camarillo campus for the Oxnard Union High School District.

2. Formation of a Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) Neighborhood Magnet School at Camarillo Heights School (D) The Superintendent recommends the Board hear information of the formation of Camarillo Heights School become a Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) Neighborhood Magnet School. 3. Child Care Enrollment and Program Update (D) The Board will hear a report from Kelli Sparks, Child Care Coordinator, on the current enrollment and financial status of our program.

2. Student Teacher Agreement Between South Dakota State University and Pleasant Valley School District (D) (V) The Superintendent recommends the Board approve the Student Teaching Agreement between South Dakota State University and Pleasant Valley School District.

3. Approve the Implementation Plan for Funding the Common Core State Standards (D) (V) The Superintendent recommends the Board approve the Funding Plan for the Implementation of Common Core State Standards.

4. Appointment of Board's Appointees to the Pleasant Valley School District Personnel Commission (D) (V) Ms. Sallye Gilbert, the Board's appointee to the Personnel Commission, has resigned before the end of her term. The Board in accordance with Education Code 45248 can make an appointment to fill the remainder of Ms. Gilbert's term. The Board recommends the appointment of Ms. Vickie Bratcher to complete Ms. Gilbert's term serving until November 30, 2014 as the Board's appointee to the Pleasant Valley School District Personnel Commission.

5. Ratification of SEIU Employees International Union, Local 99 Appointment of Classified Employees' Representative to the Personnel Commission (D) (V) The Superintendent recommends the ratification of the appointment of Mrs. Dolores V. "Val" Rains as the classified employees' representative to the Pleasant Valley

School District Personnel Commission per Board Policy 4201 (a) and Education Codes 45245 and 45246.

6. Resolution #13-20: In Support of English Language Learner Advisory Committees (D) (V) The Superintendent recommends adoption of Resolution #13-20: In Support of English Language Learner Advisory Committees.

7. Agreement between Service Employees International Union Local 99 (SEIU) and the Pleasant Valley School District (PVSD) for the 2013-2014 School Year (D)

The Superintendent recommends the Board accept the agreement between the Service Employees International Union Local 99 (SEIU) and the Pleasant Valley School District (PVSD) as presented.
