The narratives that I feel I should serve are a mix between them all.

I believe that believing and following several different narratives will help cover more ground between future students. They also all interact and intertwine with one another. I do not solely believe in the democracy god, but I do follow and believe that all men are, and should be, created, and treated, equally. No one person is right, nor is one person completely wrong. veryone one will do something in their life, will portray some aspect of inequality, whether it !ust be in their heads or out loud. This is important because it will help students, along with myself while teaching them, the system that our government follows, or should be following. I hope to impose in a classroom this idea and moral. "s for the science and technology gods, I believe they go hand in hand. In society today, technology is overta#ing everything. $ur classrooms will be becoming more integrated with computers and updates to them as they are being developed. In this day and age, it is important for students to be able to learn how to properly use these machines for what they need. Though, I do not believe that machines should overta#e the human race and wipe out the !obs that we do, but I do feel that it is important for the students to #now about the future, which is technology. %hile they are being taught, they may be teaching me things as well. The science god is very important in my ideas. %hat intrigues me about this god, and why I plan to serve it is because its& purpose is to discover reliable #nowledge '(ostman, )*. +or the next generation to be able to function, they need to #now as much as they can, because new information is coming about every day. %hat I also li#e about the science god is that it gives people a measure of control over their lives '(ostman, ,*. "lthough it does not answer simple questions, since this god is based purely on trial and error, fact and fiction, it is a simple yet powerful god. It almost sets a sort of precedence for the other gods to follow. The people who would benefit the most from these gods would be those who believe in one or more of them. (eople who believe that science is the root of life- or perhaps that technology is more powerful- or even those who believe that the democratic system is the idea of life. Those who may not follow and believe so powerfully, or strictly, it would still benefit from the teachings and beliefs of these three narratives. +or those who it would benefit the least, possibly those who are strongly religious based, I would encourage them to be open.minded. I would help them understand that no one god is right and has all of the answers. I would try to help lead them towards ma#ing their own decisions, without forcing my own upon them. I would explain that learning about, and understanding, various different perspectives will help them form their own thoughts and beliefs to follow, rather than the ones that were instilled in them by their parents, or church. "s a public school teacher, I do feel that there is a sense of responsibility to pass on "merican narratives. I believe that it is important for students to learn about not !ust one culture, but various ones. The reason that I bring this up is because not all traditions can be said to be "merican. Though we might thin# of them this way, they come from many different cultures. I feel that students should learn about many different ideas and thoughts, and not !ust ones that they may be brought up valuing. These different cultures bring about different traditions, perspectives and expectations. If anything at all, the one thing that I would hope that I could instill in students is that everyone deserves respect and a chance. I feel that it is my responsibility to be a figure in their life, even if for a short period of time. They may not have to accept my ideas that I am trying to pass onto

them, but they should at least try to understand. /y doing that, they will essentially have a better idea of where they come from, and how they got to where they are today. The public schools should be helping children get ready for adult life, and to prepare them for becoming responsible, and showing them consequences. The public is various different groups of people who live and raise their children, and ma#e democratic decisions in the community. "lthough many people believe that these responsibilities fall into the hands of the parents, children are also in the hands of their teachers. 0ome students may not have that solid figure in their life, and teachers often ta#e the role of an idol. It is not !ust filling a missing spot either. Teachers and parents wor# hand in hand, in a sense, so that the next generation of adults will be able to function- #now the difference between right and wrong- ma#e important decisions- be able to handle the consequences- and deal with the stresses of everyday life. The gods that I am choosing to serve are intertwined with the sense of public. 1emocracy is purely a public god. In this country, we not only have to ma#e what seem li#e minute decisions in everyday life, but we also are accountable for who we put our lives in the hands of for running the country. Not !ust that, but democracy is also used in schools. (arents decide what #ind of a school they want their children to attend- a private school, a public school, a school li#e 23.Tech, or any other #ind of school. No matter what #ind of school children attend though, they are all being prepared for their entry into the public scene when they are of 4) years of age. 5evolutionary schools, li#e 23.Tech, that are hands on and learning a trade seem to prepare children for !obs that do not seem highly valued, sometimes, but are in high demand. (eople view schools li#e these to be suited for those that are lac#ing in the academic area and are feared to not amount to anything. I believe that this idea is a falsity. These #inds of schools may not only set students up for life down the road, but it is usually something that they are interested in doing. "lso, it could be that the students are more of #inesthetic learners, so old. fashioned learning seems to do them no good. 6owever, no matter what #ind of school you attend, the education should be the same, but with twists. 0chools li#e 23.Tech may be hands on learning, but they are still doing the general education as well. They !ust focus their time more on their field than !ust boo#s and writing all of the time. They are preparing them for !obs, sometimes right after they graduate. 5egular public schools are preparing students with basic #nowledge, even though many question how it will be used later in life. I do not believe that they are essentially preparing students for life outside of school. /eing teachers, we have the rights to help teach students and help encourage them to form their own ideas and beliefs- not !ust those that are placed on them by their family or by societal standards. "ccording to 6ess, schools are 7deemed8 more public when they wor# harder to stamp out familial views and impress children with socially approved beliefs '6ess, 9*. 6e also says, %hile a democratic nation can reasonably settle upon a range of state:family relationships, there is no reason to imagine that a regime that more heavily privileges the state is more public '6ess, 9*. /y this, I believe that he is saying that forcing societal views on children should not be occurring, because it is not serving any good but destroying family values. 6owever, I do believe that not doing it forcefully would wor#. If we could figure out a way to wor# family values and society&s values together, then we would not have to worry about impinging on either ground. "lso, as long as a student is open.minded and willing to learn, then I believe that

#nowing about both sides would help them with developing their own ideas and thoughts. I believe that as teachers, we have a right to teach contradicting values, as long as they are not being forced upon the students to believe them. "s for following one philosophy, I do not believe !ust one will suit me. +rom my prior experiences of being a student 'as I still am one and being influenced every day*, I fall and believe in at least four different types of philosophies. I believe that hands.on learning is important. It may help those who thrive with #inesthetic learning, but I do not feel it will essentially harm those that are not. 6owever, only teaching one way is not a good idea. I believe that a combination of the two is important, that way you will be able to connect and engage with the different ways of learning of students. I have been in classrooms that are one or the other, and maybe only a few that have been a combination. I felt li#e I personally thrived in the combination of the two because it got my thoughts out on paper, but I was also able to use my hands and thin# about how it made sense also. "lso, I believe that being able to wor# in groups is important. I have been in a purely group based class, which was aggravating due to the fact that some students wanted nothing to do with it and others did all of the wor#. /ut some group wor# helps students wor# together, and it also helps them see how they need to be able to function later in life. /eing able to wor# in groups not only sets them up for wor#ing in a !ob, but it helps when wor#ing in the community. 0ometimes they will need to ma#e democratic decisions to decide who will be the leader of an event, and they need to learn that early on in education so that they will be better able to understand certain ramifications. $verall, the gods I intend to serve will help provide students with a better understanding of, not only what society will hope of them, but will help them understand why things are the way that they are. They will essentially help them be able to form their own ideas and thoughts, as well as be able to wor# together and not single one another out. The teaching styles should not force students to believe in all that is being taught to them, but be able to use the ideas for critical thin#ing and development.
