===================================================================== SHARP AL-1600 Series PRINTER DRIVER README FILE April 1999 ===================================================================== Thank you very much

for purchasing a SHARP AL-1600 Series. This document gives you the details of important matters which have to be checked before you install the AL-1600 Series printer driver. Be sure to read this document thoroughly before continuing with the installation. --------------------------------------------------------------------Compatible OS --------------------------------------------------------------------Windows 3.1/95/98 PCL5e Driver: Microsoft Windows 3.1, Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.1x, Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 98 Windows NT 4.0 PCL5e Driver: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Windows 95/98 PCL6 Driver: Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 98 Windows NT 4.0 PCL6 Driver: Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 --------------------------------------------------------------------Hints --------------------------------------------------------------------- Please use as late a version of your application software as possible. - If you encounter printing problems with Windows PCL6 printer driver, please try to use Windows PCL5e printer driver instead. - Some image printing problems such as PhotoShop printing of an oversize image which results in extra printed matter or a blue screen may be solved by reducing the image size to fit the paper size. - Sometimes when printing images using MS Paint, artifacts of the original image may show below your printed image. These can be eliminated by changing to "Raster" from "Vector" mode under the Advanced Tab in the [Graphics Mode] window. - When printing light colored lines and/or thin lines in your document the lines may not be visible. Please change the color of the line to a darker color or make the line thicker. - When you use the watermark option with a non-resident font, the watermark may not print properly. At that time, please use a

resident font for watermarks. - When printing a watermark, please select "HP-GL/2 (Vector)" found in the [Graphics Mode] window by selecting the "Advanced" tab. - When you are using some applications such as Adobe FreeHand, watermark may not print even if you selected watermark in printer driver. - Please don't add (register) more than 30 "ORIGINAL" watermarks when using PCL printer driver on Windows NT4.0. If you do so, Windows NT might become unstable. If so, the following instructions will clear the problem: 1) Quit the application by using "Ctrl+Alt+Del". Reselect the application and select "End Task". The application will be forcibly terminated. 2) Delete the file "C:\winNT\AL8XL.ini (or AL85e.ini)". This is the user watermark file. (The system file path "C:\WinNT" may vary depending on system configuration.) With these instructions, all of the "ORIGINAL" watermarks entered by the user will be deleted. Windows NT and the print driver will now operate correctly. The user may add up to 30 new "ORIGINAL" watermarks in the PCL driver without recreating the problem. - With some applications such as Lotus Approach97, when you select "Advanced" property "Fonts" in the print dialog and select "Download fonts" as the [Font Source] and select "bit image" in the [TrueType Mode], the size of the downloaded font bitmap images may be smaller than requested. At this time, please use resident font or select "Download as TrueType" as the [TrueType Mode]. - When using a Novell network, if a blank Page prints after the Job is completed turn off the "Form Feed After Job" found in the network setting in the PC client software. --------------------------------------------------------------------SHARP Corporation does not guarantee the accuracy of the information contained in this document and the software (SHARP AL-1600 Series printer driver) which accompanies this document for any purpose other than what they are intended for. --------------------------------------------------------------------Microsoft, Windows and Windows NT are registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and worldwide.
