UNDISTURBED SOIL SAMPLING, LABELLING & STORAGE I. INTRODUCTION

The determination of watercontent is an important requirement in laboratory tests and is part of the test included in more elaborate tests. Water content is an important measure in the compaction of soil. In order to obtain the correct water content, several samples at different point should be taken; the samples to be used are from experiment 1A. II. OBJECTIVES To determine the size of soil grains present. To identify whether the soil is well graded or not. MATERIALS/APPARATUSES IV. Set of sieves Balance Brush Mixer Oven Spatula METHODOLOGY 3. Weigh a specimen of approximately 500 grams. 4. Sieve the soil through a nest of sieves by hand for at least 10 minutes.

III.

1. Weigh all sieves to be used up to 0.1 gram.

5. Weigh to 0.1 gram each sieve with the soil in it. 6. Subtract the weight obtained in step 1 from those of step 5 to give the soil retained in #200 sieves. V.

DATA

2. Select test sample and break soil into its individual particles with the fingers or a rubber tipped pestle.

The experiment was very simple, it did not require as much precision and caution compared to the extraction process, obtaining the water content is simple, since you
