Receiving of transformer
1. Receiving of transformer
Check the transformer for any transport damages immediately upon delivery. Damage to packaging may be a sign of rough handling. Note any damages (it is advisable to take pictures) and contact the appropriate insurance company. Check the transformers. Be especially observant of signs of oil leakage and insulator damage, and that oil is visible in the oil level glass. Leakage must be immediately localised. Contact ABB for instructions before attempting repairs to damaged transformer. Transport, lifting and installation instructions accompany each transformer.
2. Packaging
The magnetic transformer and capacitive voltage dividers bottom section are always delivered preassembled and may not be taken apart. Top sections, if so equipped, are packaged separately with up to three sections in each package.

Connection
4. Connection
Connect the capacitive voltage dividers high voltage terminal to the line, preferably with a flexible aluminium cable so as to minimise the mechanical burden on the primary terminal. The maximum permitted static test burden is 1500 N in all directions, in compliance with IEC. For CPB 800 kV, 1300 N is the maximum permitted test burden in all directions. The low voltage terminal L is connected to the earthing terminal upon delivery. Both low voltage and the earthing terminals are located in the transformers terminal box. The cable between the L-terminal and the earthing terminal shall be disconnected when carrier equipment is connected. The transformer has a separate earthing clamp on one of the pads for earthing of the entire apparatus. There are earthing terminals in the terminal box for connection of appropriate winding terminals and cable screens. Check that terminals d1d2 are connected together and not earthed. This is necessary for correct function of the transformer. Terminals d1d2 belong to the damping circuit. All transformers are supplied adjusted and tested from the factory to ensure compliance with requirements for accuracy and loads. This entails that the adjustment windings B1B11 may only be reconnected after agreement with ABB and following the detailed instructions provided by ABB in order to retain compliance with requirements for accuracy and loads.

Oil sampling
6. Oil sampling
6.1 Magnetic transformer
Oil sampling in the field must be performed in a deenergized state and only when the weather is dry. The transformer is normally under atmospheric pressure, but variations can arise due to varying ambient temperatures. There is an oil filling plug on the cover of the transformer where oil samples can be taken. Before opening the transformer, check the following: That replacement seals are available That the glass syringe for oil samples is clean and dry That all necessary tools are on hand for opening and sealing the transformer That a vessel for surplus oil is on hand
It is recommended that a special oil sampling kit be used, which can be ordered at mailbox Diagnostics.setfo@se.abb.com or by calling one of the following numbers: +46 240-78 30 37, +46 240-78 33 07, +46 240-78 30 83, +46 240-78 33 62, +46 240-78 30 81 or +46 240-78 30 35.

Oil sampling
Actual sampling is conducted in the following steps: 1. First remove the oil filling plug; see Position A in Figure 1. Check the sampling syringe. Note that the syringe has three positions on the valve: closed, open through the hose and open to a side outlet. The plunger may not be touched because of the risk of drawing air into the syringe. Carefully insert the hose into the oil filling hole. The hose must be under the oil surface.
Fig. 1 2. The syringe and hose are then flushed with oil from the transformer. This ensures that the transformer oil is sampled and not the oil mixed with air that is still in the hose. Pull the plunger carefully and check that only oil is drawn in. Fill the syringe with oil for cleaning of the syringe. Change the valve position and empty the syringe through the side valve into the vessel for oil spillage without withdrawing the hose from the transformer. 3. Close the side valve and fill the syringe again with oil from the transformer, still without drawing in air. This is the oil sample. If air has entered the syringe despite preventive measures, hold the syringe upright and slowly press out the air with the plunger. Close the valve after sampling. If air has been drawn into the syringe, note this in the report. Clean the sealing surfaces at the oil filling opening from oil spillage and foreign matter, and install a new O-ring if necessary. Seal the transformer (25 Nm). 4. Mark the syringe with the transformers serial number and fill in the report. 5. Return the syringes and the questionnaire in the transport box as soon as possible after sampling to: ABB AB Power Transformers Godsmottagningen Torg 24, Avd AD SE-771 80 Ludvika Sweden

Measurement of loss angle (tan delta)
8. Storage
The following have to be considered during storage: The transformer(s) must be stored on a flat and stable surface with a suitable load capacity, and if possible, in its original packaging. For extended storage, the contact surfaces should be protected from corrosion. Before placing in service, ensure that all contact surfaces are thoroughly cleaned. If the transformer(s) is stored horizontally, under unfavourable climatic conditions, corrosion can occur on secondary terminals and accessories in the terminal box due to drainage not functioning properly in the horizontal position. When stored horizontally, the terminal box must be checked for condensation and penetrating moisture. Before long-term storage up to two years, appropriate measures must be taken, such as connecting heating elements, if available, or providing the terminal box with silica gel or an equivalent drying agent. For longer storage, up to five years, the transformer must be stored indoors or under roof. The maximum time when stored in its original crate without any protection is six months. If the transformer is stored protected, make sure the building is well ventilated. Capacitors not energized for a long period of time may show increased power losses. After exposing the capacitors with rated voltage the power losses starts to decrease back. The power loss will recover to original values after some time of continuous operation at rated voltage. Note that although the trend of increasing power loss is counteracted after some time in operation the site power loss measurements may still show a slight discrepancy to factory values due to the much lower test voltage usually applied on site.
