About Memorization:
Bible Writer is a copywork and A-Z Scripture Memory system in one. It makes use of two key memorization tricks to help commit information to long term memory. 1) It uses an Acrostic. In this case we make use of the Alphabet as an acrostic to help remember 26 different verses. It is this taking of something familiar to remember the new that makes this program easy even for young students. 2) It uses a common theme. It is shown that when we group or organize information according to topic, it bundles it together in our memory so that it is easier to recall. Key words, associated with who Jesus is, give the students a mental peg to hang the verses on. Since all 26 verses have a common peg (names and attributes of Jesus), it makes recollection much easier. Instructions:
Below is a summary of all 26 verses for the teacher/parent so you can see all of the scripture verses at a glance. Everyone has their own techniques for memorization (ie: flashcards, copywork, make up a song, and so forth) My recommended method for memorization is as follows but, by all means, use what works for you. I recommend memorizing a new verse each week. Every 4 th week (or verse) you should take a week to review and recite what has been learned thus far. By going at this pace your child can memorize all the verses in the set in 33 weeks. (A typical school year is 36 weeks.) Day1- Read it. Write the scripture verse on a marker board, chalkboard, or simply use the copywork page. Read the verse out loud with your student. Talk about what it means. Make sure they understand the words, as some verses will have new vocabulary for early elementary students. This is my favorite part of the learning process because each week is introducing your child to a new way to experience who Jesus is. Make sure you take the time to focus on heart understanding first. Day 2- Write it. Have each student child copy the verse. Writing is considered a form of kinesthetic learning. Copywork will increase retention. 4 Copyright 2013 kirstenjoyawake.com. All rights reserved.
Day 3- Dicate it. Dictate the verse to the student. The child is using their visual memory of the verse (from their copywork) to write the verse on their own as you read it out loud. Day 4- Recite it. Have the student recite the verse.
Copywork Pages: There are three kinds of copywork pages for each verse: Letter tracing for emergent writers (Kindergarten) *verses are adapted Manuscript writing for lower elementary (grades 1-2) Cursive writing for upper elementary(grades 3-5)
Versions of the Bible used: There are a mixture of versions used in this curriculum including NKJV, NIV, and NASB. My priority was to use translations that held original meaning, simple vocabulary, and short sentences. I used the version of the Bible that gave the easiest verbiage for elementary age children to both understand and remember the scripture.
A-Z Scripture Verses:
A- Jesus is Author and Finisher. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2)
B- Jesus is the Bread of Life. I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. (John 6:35)
C- Jesus is Cornerstone. In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that Godshould make the captain of their salvation perfect through suffering. (Heb. 2:10) 5 Copyright 2013 kirstenjoyawake.com. All rights reserved.
D- Jesus is the Door. I am the door ; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. (John 10:9-10)
