JAMA Internal Medicine published a study of 1,269 patients with Type 2 diabetes and found out of 145 people that developed pancreatitis, 87 of the were taking Byetta or Januvia.
According to the study, Byetta and Januvia nearly doubled the risk of pancreatitis compared to other diabetes drugs.

One of the most common drugs prescribed to control Type 2 diabetes is Byetta. In 2008, Byetta was prescribed 7 million times. Recently, serious concerns about Byettas safety have been raised. Byetta has been linked to an increased risk of pancreatic, liver, and thyroid cancer.

FDA received 38,730 reports of Byetta adverse events, including 1,733 cases of pancreatitis.
2011
The study also found Byetta increased the risk of pancreatic cancer by 2.9 times. The study noted an increased risk of thyroid cancer in Byetta patients as well.
2009
Diabetes, a medical journal published a study linking GLP-1 Drugs like Byetta to pancreas abnormalities that can lead to cancer. FDA received 30 reports of acute pacreatitis from Byetta patients.
