Section A: Guided Writing

You are advised to spend about 40 minutes on this question.

You have just returned from a camping trip organised by the Geography Society of your
school. Write a letter to your friend describing the experience to him/her. Use the map
below as a guide.

Section B : Summary

[10 marks]

Read the passage below and answer the question that follows.

Many people suffer from migraine daily. Migraine headaches can cause
terrible pain and prevent sufferers from going about their lives. Migraine is believed
to occur when blood vessels in the brain and scalp either close down, resulting in
limited blood flow, or open way up and become swollen. It is generally focused on
one side of the head. The pain can bring sensitivity to light, noise or movement.
There is a combination of self-care techniques and appropriate medication
that can help manage this painful problem. Firstly, you may be able to relieve or
control pain from a migraine by lying down in a cool, dark and quiet place. Draw the
curtains or prevent any harsh light from entering your room. Switch off any loud
music.
Next, put an ice bag on your head and relax. You can also take some
painkillers. Try to avoid food or drinks with caffeine. Caffeine could cause a
rebound headache. Some light exercises and medication is known to be of some
help. Finally, it is important to know what triggers the migraine in the first place. It
could be the type of food you are eating or it could be caused by something more
serious. Consult a doctor if the pain persists or if it occurs frequently.

Write a summary on the ways to manage a migraine.

• be written in ONE paragraph
