Assistant Director
The duties o the Assistant Director are !uite le"ible and #ill $ary rom production to production and Director to Director. %ometimes a Director #ill e"pect the Assistant Director to per orm duties normally assigned to the %tage Manager and $ice $ersa. &ommunication and negotiation are important in clari ying the assignment o these duties. The Assistant Director #ill typically act as another set o eyes and ears and as a sounding board or the Director at auditions, rehearsals, and per ormances. 'hen asked, the Assistant Director #ill o er constructi$e suggestions to the Director regarding all elements o the production rom design to per ormances. (t is important to keep in mind that the Director should be the only person communicating these suggestions #ith the production team including per ormers. The Assistant Director should restrict comments to the Director in order to a$oid con using or possibly contradictory messages. (t is also important to reali)e that the Assistant Director position is one o trust and con identiality--the Director may share thoughts or concerns that should not be common kno#ledge. The Assistant Director position is an opportunity or students to learn irsthand an indi$idual director*s process and the production process as a #hole. The ollo#ing are some o the duties and responsibilities a Director may re!uire o an Assistant Director.

Pre-Production:
+eads and studies the play; discusses interpretation and production concept #ith the Director. Attends all production con erences.

Rehearsal Period:
Assists the Director as needed. %its in on all rehearsals, taking notes and acti$ely #atching and listening. &ommunicates regularly #ith the Director regarding the progress o the production. (s in complete charge o rehearsals in absence o the Director. Director may also ask Assistant Director to run special rehearsals such as line-throughs, speed-throughs, etc. Although typically the %tage Manager*s duty, the AD may be asked to #alk through scenes or an absent actor. %ome Directors may ask the Assistant Director to take blocking, line, and,or dialect notes. The Assistant Director should al#ays be prepared or such duties. (nsures that appropriate people and,or organi)ations are thanked in the program or their contributions to the production.

Dress Rehearsal/Performance Period:


%ee -'ho is &alled to Tech +ehearsals- or rehearsal attendance re!uirements. Makes notes o any details yet to be completed. The Assistant Director may be asked to take rehearsal notes during inal run through, Technical and Dress +ehearsals. These notes should be shared #ith the Director #ho may communicate them to the cast and,or cre#. The Assistant Director may be asked to type up any rehearsal notes taken by the Director or distribution to the cast and,or cre#.

After Final Performance:

/roduction Manager 0%tudent Directed /ro1ects2


(n some instances, the %tudent Directed /roductions #ill ha$e a student /roduction Manager. Many o these duties are typically handled by the %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director, and the %tudent /roduction Manager should consult #ith and report to the %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director. The %tudent /roduction Manager is responsible or the smooth and e icient coordination and running o the %tudent Directed /ro1ects. The /roduction Manager is responsible or coordinating the rehearsal schedules, technical needs, and budgets o all productions. The /roduction Manager acts as the liaison among the production team and bet#een the production team 0including directors2 and the 3aculty,%ta . All communication related to the %tudent Directed /roductions should unnel through the /roduction Manager. The /roduction Manager also acts as the -4usiness Manager- or the %tudent Directed /roductions, tracking budgets and e"penditures.

Pre-Production:
+eads and studies all scripts. Discusses duties and responsibilities #ith the %ta Manager,Technical Director. Assists directors #ith all pre-production #ork as needed, including auditions. /roduction

Discusses budgets #ith all pertinent members o the production team and establishes a system or tracking e"penses.

Rehearsal Period:
Attends and o$ersees #eekly Theatre /roduction meetings during rehearsal period. (n addition to Theatre /roduction, /roduction Manager coordinates and runs #eekly production meetings #ith members o the production team as necessary. The /roduction %tage Manager should make e$ery e ort to meet #ith the %tage Managers o the indi$idual productions at least e$ery other #eek. This may be a group meeting #ith all o the %tage Managers or indi$idually. (ndi$idual %tage Managers typically generate and post /roduction Meeting +eports, but the /roduction Manager may be called upon or this duty. +eports should be posted on both &allboards and to the Theatre %tudents listser$. (ndi$idual %tage Managers #ill also generate and post Daily +ehearsal +eports and +unning 5otes or their indi$idual productions. (n con1unction #ith the 3aculty Auditorium Manager, %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director, Master &arpenter, %cenic Artist, Master 6lectrician,%ound Designer, &ostume %uper$isor, /rops Designer, and %tudent Managers, the /roduction Manager coordinates load-in. (nsures that appropriate people and,or organi)ations are thanked in the program or their contributions to the production. Attends %taggerthrough,%tumblethrough,3irst +unthrough and &re# 7ie#.

Dress Rehearsal/Performance Period:


'orking in con1unction #ith the %tage Managers o each production, the /roduction Manager coordinates and super$ises Technical and Dress +ehearsals, and per ormances. This super$ision includes, but is not restricted to, super$ising production cre#s, coordinating changeo$ers bet#een plays during rehearsal,per ormance period, and may include stage managing per ormances. +ecei$es notes rom indi$idual %tage Managers,Directors o any problems, un inished details, painting touch ups, and,or changes and communicates these to the proper cre# chie . /roduction Manager posts and checks the &ast,&re# %ign-in sheet and attempts to contact any absent or tardy cre#. /roduction Manager may delegate responsibility or cast members to the indi$idual %tage Managers i desired. The /roduction Manager may establish a policy regarding penalties or tardiness. The /roduction Manager insures that all e!uipment and personnel are ready or per ormance. The /roduction Manager should act as /roduction %tage Manager or may, i necessary, recruit a cre# person 0#hich could include one or more o the indi$idual %tage Managers2 to act in that capacity. The /roduction %tage Manager per orms the %tage Manager duties listed belo# or the entire e$ening o scenes, including calling cues, coordinating cre#s, etc. The /roduction Manager should establish a check o list o duties including those that must be accomplished prior to opening the house and those that must be accomplished prior to curtain.

Attends and gi$es report at #eekly /roduction Meetings. +eports to %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director and Director o Theatre. Assignment #ill be made or each production. The /roduction Manager #ill be issued keys necessary to per orm these duties.

%tage Manager
+esponsible or the smooth and e icient running o rehearsals and per ormances. The %tage Manager is responsible or keeping the master prompt script, setting up rehearsal space prior to each rehearsal and striking rehearsal urniture and props as necessary, running and calling sho#, posting&ast,&re# %ign-in sheets, collecting and securing $aluables during per ormance, taking and posting /roduction Meeting +eports, Daily +ehearsal +eports, and +unning 5otes, and coordinating the production run cre#s. +eports and 5otes should be posted on both &allboards and the Theatre%tudents listser$. 4y illing out and submitting these online orms, the in ormation is automatically emailed to the Theatre %tudent listser$. The %tage Manager may then print out the email and post the hard copy on both &allboards. &onsults the %tage Manager /re-/roduction &hecklist and the %tage Manager /roduction &hecklist. These are meant as e"amples--each production #ill ha$e speci ic re!uirements. The %tage Manager may #ant to re er to %tage Manager &hecklist 6"amples, generated or past productions. +ehearsal duties, to be negotiated #ith Director, include recording blocking, prompting, taking 8ine 5otes, contacting absent or tardy actors,cre# members, calling cast,cre# members in rom breaks, etc. The %tage Manager also maintains a %tage Manager*s 4o". 9ou may use the Department*s %M bo" or your o#n. %ee the /roduction Manager,Technical Director or details. The %M bo" should be stocked #ith supplies including, but not limited to: o stop #atch, pencils, pencil sharpener, erasers, highlighters, 'ite-:ut, /ost-it notes, 4and-Aids, aspirin,acetaminophen, cough drops, tissues, hard candy, cigarette lighter, stapler, paper clips, bobby pins, sa ety pins, hair bands, tape measure, chalk, lashlight, batteries, rubber bands, ; hole punch, paper rein orcements, scissors, tape, spike tape, and, o course, ga tape.

During %tudio Theatre and Dinner Theatre productions, policies and procedures #ill be altered to it the circumstances and physical per ormance space. +e er to /roduction Manager 1ob description or duties to be handled by the /roduction Manager during %tudent Directed /roductions. The %tage Manager should be a#are o the location o telephones and ire e"tinguishers or use during an emergency, and be #ell-$ersed in ire e$acuation and tornado procedures.

Pre-Production:
+eads and studies the play; discusses duties and responsibilities #ith the Director. Attends all production con erences. Assists the Director at auditions. Distributes and collects Audition 3orms and &re# &all 3orms, emphasi)es to auditioners the need to list all con licts, takes a /olaroid photo o auditioners 0#hich is then attached to the orm2 as needed, keeps track o the order o auditioners, keeps

audition lo#ing smoothly, ushers auditioners into theatre, and announces them as per the Director*s instructions. Assists the %cenic Designer in taping out the ground plan on loor o stage and,or rehearsal hall as needed. ( Director re!uests, the %tage Manager generates a rehearsal schedule and makes copies or all cast, cre#, and the &allboard.

Rehearsal Period:
/laces and spikes urniture, rugs, etc. as established by the Director. :btains and maintains any rehearsal props called or by the Director by the -+ehearsal /rops Due- deadline on the Department &alendar. +ehearsal props are substitutes o comparable si)e and #eight used by actors until the inal props are a$ailable. The %tage Manager runs #eekly /roduction Meetings, and takes /roduction Meeting +eport notes. The %tage Manager #ill then generate /roduction Meeting +eports. These notes are posted on both the Theatre%tudents listser$ and &allboards. %ubmitting the orm automatically sends it to the Theatre student listser$. The %tage Manager may then print out the message and post the hard copy on the callboards. These reports #ill be a primary method o communication or the entire Department. They #ill include updates rom each o the aculty and sta , %tudent Managers, positions o responsibility, et al. At irst readthrough, the %tage Manager obtains the cast*s names, addresses, and telephone numbers, and then generates a contact sheet #hich is distributed to cast and production team. %tage Manager makes sure that e$ery actor recei$es a rehearsal schedule and keeps cast ad$ised o any changes. The online Daily &all %heet or hard copy Daily &all %heet may be use ul. Takes Daily +ehearsal +eports at each rehearsal and posts them daily to the Theatre%tudents listser$ and on both &allboards. These reports #ill include all changes, additions, or deletions that arise during daily rehearsals. These changes could include the addition o a prop, a !uestion to a designer, a change in rehearsal schedule, etc. This #ill be a #ritten record o such re!uests and changes to acilitate the timely completion o tasks and to insure that all members o cast and cre# recei$e noti ication o schedule changes and so on. %ubmitting the orm automatically sends it to the Theatre student listser$. The %tage Manager may then print out the message and post the hard copy on the &allboards. Arri$es at least ten minutes early or e$ery rehearsal to set stage urniture and any rehearsal. %tage Manager insures that A88 stage urniture and rehearsal props are struck and stored a ter each rehearsal. Makes sure rehearsal area is s#ept prior to any dance or ight choreography rehearsal. 'alks through scenes or any absent actor or assigns a delegate to do so. Attempts to contact any missing or une"cused actors. The %tage Manager insures that all actors are in place prior to the beginning o each scene. +ecords in %tage Manager*s book all blocking, intentional pauses, stage business, and all light, sound, music, special e ects, and curtain cues, etc. /rompts the actors precisely and corrects mistakes to the e"tent that the Director #ishes. (t is important or the %tage Manager to keep up #ith the script during rehearsals and is ready to prompt an actor immediately upon recei$ing a -8ine- re!uest. Takes 8ine 5otes o dropped lines, 1umped lines, etc. and distributes to the cast. o Taking do#n blocking :+ prompting actors,taking line notes may be delegated to the Assistant %tage Manager at the %tage Manager*s discretion.

A ter all rehearsals and per ormances 0both Mainstage and %tudio Theatre2, the %tage Manager insures that all doors are properly secured, and lights are turned o . 8ights to be checked and turned o by e$ery %tage Manager 0both Mainstage and %tudio Theatre2 include all lights in the %tudio Theatre, Makeup +oom, &ostume %hop, /rop %hop, 8ight 4ooth, Mainstage, and %cene %hop 0#ith the e"ception o the night circuit,ghost light2. ( students #ill be utili)ing one o the

spaces or rehearsal or other pro1ects a ter the %tage Manager lea$es, the %tage Manager secures all areas not directly in$ol$ed in such use and the students in$ol$ed #ill be responsible or their area. The %tage Manager notes #ho is using the space and directs complaints regarding misuse or negligence to those indi$iduals. &ontinued abuse #ill be re erred to the /roduction Manager,Technical Director. %tage Manager collaborates #ith the 8ighting Designer, 8ight 4oard :perator 0i needed2, %ound Designer, %ound 4oard :p 0i needed2, &ostume Designer 0i needed2, A%M,Deck &aptain, Director, /roduction Manager 0%D/*s2, and %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director in holding a /aper Tech prior to tech #eekend. This has o ten been on the 3riday a ternoon be ore Tech 'eekend, but must be prior to &ue to &ue +ehearsal. o During /aper Tech, the %tage Manager is responsible or penciling in all light, sound, ly, actor, and scene shi t cues. The %tage Manager is responsible or obtaining cue sheets rom the 8ighting Designer and %ound Designer in enough time to prepare the prompt book. The %tage Manager or the Assistant %tage Manager should insure that the +un &re# and any members o 'ardrobe &re# actilitating scene shi ts are gi$en +un %heets and %cene %hi t /lot no later than /aper Tech. %ee %cene %hi t /lot 6"ample as a model.

The %tage Manager prepares or &ue to &ue +ehearsal in order to acilitate the e icient and smooth running o the rehearsal. The %tage Manager is the primary person responsible or communication among production sta , cast and cre#.

Dress Rehearsal/Performance Period:


:nce per ormances begin, the prompt book containing blocking notes, lighting cues and sound cues should be locked in the booth or another sa e place so that it is accessible in the e$ent that the %tage Manager cannot run a per ormance. The %tage Manager should create a second book to be kept #ith him,her that contains any in ormation that may be needed during the day, such as contact lists, schedules etc. The %tage Manager must be amiliar #ith all 6mergency /olicies such as tornado #arnings, ire, smoke, etc. The %tage Manager #ill contact the3aculty,%ta on Duty,&all or any emergency situations 0e!uipment ailure, smell o smoke, se$ere #eather2. (n the case o li e threatening emergency, the %tage Manager noti ies %ecurity and takes charge o implementing proper procedures. The %tage Manager should print a copy o the sa ety procedures as outlined in this handbook and place a copy in the %tage Manager /rompt 4ook. The %tage Manager should generate a +un 8ist or cre# members that lists speci ic duties be ore, during and a ter each per ormance similar to the +un 8ist e"ample ound in %tage Manager &hecklist 6"amples . %tage Manager should hold scene %hi t +ehearsals #ith +un &re#. The %tage Manager should amiliari)e the A%M,Deck &aptain #ith the production book during the dress rehearsal period in the unlikely e$ent that the %tage Manager is unable to call the sho# due to illness or other emergency and the A%M,Deck &aptain is re!uired to ill in. Takes note o any problems, un inished details, painting touch ups, and,or changes and communicates these to the proper cre# chie , /roduction Manager 0%D/*s2, or %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director. %tage Manager 0or delegate such as A%M,Deck &aptain or +un &re#2 insures the sa ety and sanitation o all props and consumables. %tage Manager or Assistant %tage Manager is responsible or setting up and labeling any and all prop tables necessary or a production. 5on- or semi-$aluable props may be stored in the locked, rolling /rops +oad 4o". The %tage Manager should be responsible or locking and unlocking the +oad 4o" be ore and a ter rehearsals and per ormances. 5o e"tremely $aluable or delicate props, or #eapons 0especially irearms2 should be stored in the +oad 4o". These items can be stored in the %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director*s o ice.

The %tage Manager should generate a /rop &ue %heet and diagrams or +un &re# members. These should indicate #here e$ery prop is preset on stage 0a photo is o ten help ul2 and,or #here e$ery prop is mo$ed on or o stage during the run o the sho#. %tage Manager is responsible or presetting all props both on and backstage prior to each Technical and Dress +ehearsal, and e$ery /er ormance. These duties may be delegated to the Assistant %tage Manager or a member o the +un &re#, but the %tage Manager should con irm that all props are properly preset and that hand props are dealt #ith. /er ormers are responsible or checking their o#n indi$idual props prior to each per ormance, and the %tage Manager is ultimately responsible that all props and urniture are correctly preset. /er ormers should pick up props rom the props table0s2 or designated area backstage and return them there, and are responsible or presetting any personal props in pockets, etc. ( an actor #ants to assume responsibility or keeping such personal props bet#een rehearsals and per ormances, this should be negotiated #ith the %tage Manager or A%M,Deck &aptain. /er ormers are responsible or bringing to the attention o the %tage Manager or A%M,Deck &aptain any items needing repair. The %tage Manager posts and checks the &ast,&re# %ign-in sheet and attempts to contact any absent or tardy cast or cre# member0s2. Any member o the cast,cre# deemed tardy #ill be re!uired to stay a ter the rehearsal or per ormance #ith the %tage Manager until the %M lea$es. Tardiness in such cases is de ined as not being signed in by the announced deadline. %tage Manager turns o %ound +oom, 8ight +oom, and &ostume %hop 0 or %tudio productions2 telephones and insures that all e!uipment and personnel are ready or per ormance. The %tage Manager should establish a check o list o duties including those that must be accomplished prior to opening the house and those that must be accomplished prior to curtain. %tage Manager insures that all #ork lights are turned o , ront e"it doors are unlocked, the +ansburg blo#ers are o 0i necessary2, and that all s#itches on the %tage Manager*s console are in the do#n position. ( the stage is to be s#ept and,or mopped, the %tage Manager assigns this task to a +un &re# member and insures its completion prior to the house opening. The %tage Manager has the ultimate responsibility that the stage is set correctly and that all elements and members o the production team are ready or the per ormance. This typically re!uires a #alkthrough o the entire stage and backstage area prior to the house opening. The %tage Manager should generate a checklist similar to %tage Manager /roduction &heck 8ist. A sample rom a recent %tudio Theatre production can be ound in %tage Manager &hecklist 6"ample. The %tage Manager gi$es the ollo#ing calls to cast and cre#: one hour; hal hour; house open 0a ter <ouse Manager noti ies %M2; i teen minutes; ten minutes; i$e minutes; and places 0at t#o minutes2. The %tage Manager cannot gi$e the -places- call until gi$en the go-ahead by the <ouse Manager at three minutes. During Dry Tech, &ue to &ue and Tech,+un +ehearsals, the %tage Manager may stop rehearsal i necessary. The %tage Manager merely says -stop.- The cast and run cre#s should hold !uietly in place #hile the %tage Manager and the production team address the reason or stopping. The %tage Manager is responsible or choosing an appropriate restarting point in the script and restarting the rehearsal. The %tage Manager #ill in orm the cast and cre# #here the rehearsal #ill restart 0a line or cue2 on the %tage Manager*s command. The %tage Manager restarts the rehearsal by simply saying -.o please.At intermission, the %tage Manager insures that any necessary #orklights are turned on backstage, that no $isitors are allo#ed backstage, and that any changes are accomplished. During intermission, the %tage Manager in orms the <ouse Manager to signal the patrons back into the theatre or the ne"t act i$e minute prior to the end o the intermission as determined by the Director. The %M ollo#s the calling procedure rom the top o the sho# including the ollo#ing calls: ten minutes; i$e minutes; places 0at t#o minutes2. The %tage Manager cannot gi$e the -places- call until gi$en the go-ahead by the <ouse Manager at three minutes. The %tage Manager is responsible or keeping any times re!uested by the Director #hich could include total running time, running time o each act, and running time o scene changes on the +unning 5otes orm.

( there is a photo call scheduled or the production, the %tage Manager should recei$e a photo call list in ad$ance. The %tage Manager should prepare or the photo call by determining #hich lighting cues #ill be needed or each shot and communicating these cues to the 8ight 4oard operator. The %tage Manager should also coordinate #ith the Assistant %tage Manager,Deck &aptain, +un &re# and 'ardrobe &re# to insure the e icient and smooth running o the photo call. The %tage Manager is responsible or posting +unning 5otes on the &allboard ollo#ing e$ery Dress +ehearsal and per ormance. %ubmitting the orm automatically sends it to the Theatre student listser$. The %tage Manager may then print out the message and post the hard copy on the callboards.

After Final Performance:


3or participating A&T3 entry, %tage Manager #ill make copies o all o paper#ork, run lists, etc. and submit to the Director o Theatre or inclusion in the A&T3 production book. .i$es report during the /ostmortem. Attends and gi$es report at #eekly /roduction Meetings. +eports to %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director. Assignment #ill be made or each production. The %tage Manager #ill be issued keys necessary to per orm these duties.

8ighting Designer
The 8ighting Designer is responsible or the design and implementation o lighting design including all design, cueing, and paper#ork. (n collaboration #ith the Master 6lectrician, the 8ighting Designer is ultimately responsible or the hanging, ocusing, and upkeep o the lighting design. (n certain productions, this position may be combined #ith that o Master 6lectrician. &onsults the 8ighting Designer &hecklist. The 8ighting Designer may #ant to re er to 8ighting Designer Tips, #ritten by a ormer student 8ighting %tudent Manager.

&ostume Designer
The &ostume Designer is responsible or the design and implementation o all elements o costume design including designing, building and,or ac!uisition o all costumes in a timely manner and #ithin budgetary limits. (n collaboration #ith the &ostume %uper$isor, the &ostume Designer is also ultimately responsible or the upkeep, repair and running o all costumes. &onsults the &ostume Designer &hecklist. ( no &ostume %uper$isor is assigned, consult &ostume %uper$isor &hecklist. &onsults #ith the &ostume 3aculty member.

/rops Designer
+esponsible or the building, procurement, upkeep, and repair o all props or a particular production in a timely manner #ithin budgetary limits. &onsults the /rops Designer &hecklist.

Pre-Production:
+eads and studies the play; attends irst production con erence at #hich Director presents his,her interpretation o the play. Discusses possible props #ith the Director and %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director. 'orks #ith the %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director and /rop %hop %tudent Manager to determine instrument and electrical resources.

Does research on the period,style o properties 0and urniture i the %cenic Designer is not responsible or urniture2. ( necessary, obtains a groundplan sho#ing location o all urniture, and notes #hate$er comments the director and,or designer makes concerning the si)e, color, style, or unction o each piece o urniture or prop.

Rehearsal Period:
Makes a detailed property list. The Director pro$ides a complete prop list by the -3inal /rops 8ist Due- deadline outlined on the Department &alendar. =eeps track o the source o props: pulled rom /rop +oom; borro#ed rom cast, cre# or riends in the community; built in shop; borro#ed rom merchant; etc. ( not bought, built or pulled rom stock, /rops Designer makes sure the source is thanked in the program. <olds #ork calls as necessary or /rops &re#. The /rops Designer is responsible or obtaining all props 0and, in some instances, urniture2 or the production. >sing the &ostume,/rops &heck-o %heet, the /rops Designer lists e$ery prop needed or the production, marks: #hether the item #ill be built, borro#ed, rented or bought; the estimated cost; the source 0e.g. -stock,- -actor*s name,- -&i$ic Theatre,- etc.2; the date o obtaining or completing the prop; and any alterations to borro#ed or rented props. ( necessary, the /rops Designer obtains the /rop %hop +oad 4o" rom the /rop %hop %tudent Manager. The /rops Designer stocks the +oad 4o" #ith props as needed and, in con1unction #ith the %tage Manager, determines its location. 'orks closely #ith %cenic Designer in selecting and appro$ing drapery materials and other set dressing. ( consumables are used in a per ormance, the /rops Designer is responsible or obtaining a purchase order, check, or petty cash rom the Department Administrati$e Assistant and making arrangements or purchase 0see /etty &ash policy2. /rops Designer consults #ith the Director o the production regarding #hen consumables should irst be used in rehearsals. /rops &re# noti ies the /rops Designer #hen restocking is necessary. /rops Designer insures the sa ety and sanitation o all props and consumables until such time as the %tage Manager or /rops &re# take o$er this responsibility. Attends rehearsals as necessary to note placement and use o props. (nsures that all props are ready by the -3inal /rops Due- deadline on the Department &alendar. Attends %taggerthrough,%tumblethrough,3irst +unthrough and &re# 7ie#. (nsures that appropriate people and,or organi)ations are thanked in the program or their contributions to the production. %ubmits #eekly /roduction 4udget +eports to the %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director.

Dress Rehearsal Period:


&ollaborates #ith %cenic Designer in placing trim, pictures, ornaments, and any other set dressing on the set. &onsults #ith %tage Manager regarding backstage prop table0s2. The /rops Designer makes sure that all ood props or consumables are purchased or prepared daily or as appropriate. %ee -'ho is &alled to Tech +ehearsals- or rehearsal attendance re!uirements.

There may instances in #hich the/rops Designer is called upon to attend all Technical and Dress +ehearsals, and per ormances.

After Final Performance:


During %trike or each production, the /rops Designer, in collaboration #ith the /rop %hop %tudent Manager, is responsible or returning props to %torage in good repair and suitable or uture use. Makes sure all borro#ed or rented props are returned in good condition. During %trike, the /rops Designer #ill collaborate #ith the /rop %hop %tudent Manager in returning props to storage and insuring all items are returned in good condition. 3or participating A&T3 productions, the /rops Designer #ill assist the /rop %hop %tudent Manager, and %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Directorin storing props or possible tra$el to esti$al. o All Designers #ill make copies o all o their designs, port olio photographs, paper#ork, rough sketches, etc. and submit to the Director o Theatre or inclusion in the A&T3 production book %heet, the /rops Designer marks the date that rented or

%ound Designer
+esponsible or the sound design and the implementation, loading-in, maintenance, and striking o the sound e!uipment necessary or a particular production. This position may be combined #ith that o the Master 6lectrician or #ith that o the %ound 4oard :perator. :n occasion, a sound technician may be assigned to assist #ith set-up o e!uipment, mics, etc. &onsults the %ound Designer &hecklist.

Rehearsal Period:
+eads and studies the play. Discusses sound design #ith the Director. .athers all sound e ects and,or music re!uired or the production or appro$al by the Director. &onsults #ith the %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director and Assistant Auditorium,%ound %tudent Manager regarding the a$ailability o sound output de$ices and determines the most e icient method or sound production and,or rein orcement. All designers meet #ith Director0s2, 3aculty Auditorium Manager, and %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director #ith preliminary designs in hand on the -/reliminary Design Duedate on the Department &alendar. &reates a sound tape, cd, mini-disc, computer iles or plot by the -%ound /lot Due- deadline on the Department &alendar. &ollaborates #ith the Director and %tage Manager in setting cues and sound le$els, pro$iding the %tage Manager #ith preliminary %ound &ue 8ist as per the -/reliminary ? %heets Due- deadline on the Department &alendar. Determines i $oice and,or musician rein orcement is necessary and consults #ith the %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director regarding type and placement o microphones and speakers. >sing the %ound &heck-o 8ist, the %ound Designer lists the source o e$ery sound cue needed or the production and marks #hether the item is: borro#ed, rented or bought; the estimated cost; the source 0e.g. -stock,- -actor*s name,- -&i$ic Theatre,- etc.2; and the date o obtaining sound source.

Load-in/Light Hang Period:


The %ound Designer insures the sa e and e icient cabling and dressing o all speakers, headsets, boards, monitors, and other e!uipment, and trains the %ound 4oard :perator i necessary. The %ound Designer helps maintain the %ound +oom in a sa e, neat, and organi)ed manner throughout the rehearsal period. (n collaboration #ith the Assistant Auditorium,%ound %tudent Manager, the %ound Designer insures that all headsets are setup, tested, and in good #orking order prior to the irst Technical +ehearsal.

Dress Rehearsal/Performance Period:


(nsures that all sound e ects, sound tapes,&Ds,Minidiscs,computer iles, and music are ready by the -%ound +ecording Due- deadline on theDepartment &alendar. /ro$ides %ound 4oard :perator #ith %ound &ue %heets. (nsures that all mics ha$e resh batteries 0see /etty &ash policy2. :nce all sound cues, special e ects, and so on ha$e been established, the %ound Designer records a master sound tape,minidisc,&D,computer back-up #hich is to be kept in a sa e place. This master can be used in the e$ent o an emergency such as a sho# tape breaking, a &D being scratched, computer crash, etc. %ee -'ho is &alled to Tech +ehearsals- or rehearsal attendance re!uirements. Makes notes o any details yet to be completed.

After Final Performance:


During %trike, the %ound Designer #ill collaborate #ith the Assistant Auditorium,%ound %tudent Manager and %ound 4oard :perator in returning sound e!uipment to storage and insuring all items are returned in good condition. >sing the %ound &heck-o 8ist, the %ound Designer marks the date that rented or borro#ed sound sources are returned. The %ound Designer is responsible or striking all sound e!uipment, cables, speakers, headsets, microphones, and so on. 3or participating A&T3 productions, the %ound Designer #ill assist the Assistant Auditorium,%ound %tudent Manager and %ound 4oard :perator, and%ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director in storing sound e!uipment or possible tra$el to esti$al. o All Designers #ill make copies o all o their designs, port olio photographs, paper#ork, rough sketches, etc. and submit to the Director o Theatre or inclusion in the A&T3 production book. %ound Designer #ill insure that Director o Theatre has a copy o the master mini-disc, &D, or computer iles.

%ound Designer is also responsible or cleaning and neatening the %ound +oom during the /ost%trike period. .i$es report during the /ostmortem. +eports to %ta /roduction Manager,Technical Director. Assignment may be combined #ith Master %ound Technician and #ill be made or each production. The %ound Designer #ill be issued keys necessary to per orm these duties.
