DupScout is a-aila7le as a free download on our we7 site and from a lar e num7er of software directories from around t+e world. /o 7e sure !ou are ettin t+e latest product -ersion c+ec< +ereD +ttpDEEwww.dupscout.comEdownloads.+tml DupScout is especiall! desi ned to 7e as simple as possi7le. /+e installation procedure is -er! simple1 re?uires no special <nowled e and ma! 7e completed in less t+an 2, seconds. /+ere is no need for an! additional software. Fust download t+e DupScout installation pac<a e1 run t+e setup pro ram and !ou are done.

8n t+e G=elcomeG screen press t+e G;extG 7utton. 4ead t+e end9user license a reement and press t+e GI $ reeG 7utton if !ou a ree wit+ t+e license terms or t+e G#ancelG 7utton to stop t+e installation process.

Select t+e destination director!1 press t+e GInstallG 7utton and wait for t+e installation process to complete. /+atGs all !ou need to do to install t+e DupScout duplicate files finder utilit! on !our computer.

Detectin! Duplicate &iles in a Director+

/+e simplest wa! to find duplicate files in a director! is to press t+e GDuplicatesG 7utton located in t+e top9left corner of t+e main tool7ar. 8n t+e profile dialo enter one or more dis<s or directories to searc+ in and press t+e GSearc+G 7utton to 7e in t+e searc+ process.

Dependin on t+e amount of files t+at s+ould 7e searc+ed1 t+e duplicate files detection process ma! ta<e from a couple of seconds for tens of files to a few +ours for lar e file s!stems containin millions of files. Durin t+e duplicate files detection process1 DupScout will displa! t+e process dialo s+owin t+e total amount of processed files1 t+e num7er of detected duplicate files and t+e amount of t+e wasted stora e space. 8nce t+e detection process is completed1 DupScout will displa! t+e list of all detected duplicate file sets sorted 7! t+e amount of t+e wasted stora e space. For eac+ duplicate file set1 DupScout s+ows t+e name of t+e currentl! selected ori inal file1 t+e currentl! selected cleanup action1 t+e num7er of duplicate files in t+e set1 t+e si5e of eac+ file and t+e amount of stora e space wasted 7! t+e duplicate files.

Sometimes1 t+ere ma! 7e t+ousands of duplicate files and in order to +elp t+e user concentrate on t+e duplicate files wastin si nificant amounts of stora e space1 DupScout 7! default s+ows top 1,,,, duplicate file sets sorted 7! t+e amount of t+e wasted stora e space. In order to c+an e t+e default amount of displa!ed duplicate file sets1 open t+e profile dialo 1 select t+e G$d-ancedG ta7 and set t+e G0ax Dup File SetsG option to an appropriate -alue.

DupScout allows one to select ori inal files t+at s+ould 7e <ept in place and cleanup duplicate files t+us freein up wasted stora e space. /+e user is pro-ided wit+ t+e a7ilit! to delete selected duplicate files or to mo-e t+em to anot+er director! or a 7ac<up dis<. In addition1 DupScout Pro allows one to replace duplicate files wit+ lin<s to t+e ori inal file in eac+ specific duplicate files set.

In order to select an appropriate duplicates cleanup action1 select one or more duplicate file sets1 press t+e ri +t mouse 7utton and select t+e re?uired duplicates cleanup action. :! default1 DupScout selects t+e oldest file in eac+ duplicate file set as t+e ori inal file. In addition1 t+e user is pro-ided wit+ t+e a7ilit! to select an! ar7itrar! file in eac+ file set as t+e ori inal file.

/+e set dialo s+ows all duplicate files in a set and allows one to manuall! select a cleanup action and t+e ori inal file for t+e set. In order to manuall! c+an e t+e ori inal file for a duplicate files set1 clic< on t+e set item in t+e set list1 select t+e file t+at s+ould 7e set as t+e ori inal file1 press t+e ri +t mouse 7utton and select t+e GSet as 8ri inalG menu item.

In order to minimi5e accidental remo-als of important files1 DupScout implements a t+ree9 sta e cleanup process wit+ an actions pre-iew dialo allowin one to carefull! select and confirm cleanup actions t+at s+ould 7e executed. 8nce finis+ed selectin duplicate files t+at s+ould 7e remo-ed and cleanup actions to 7e used for eac+ specific duplicate files set1 press t+e GPre-iewG 7utton located on t+e main tool7ar.

/+e actions pre-iew dialo will displa! a list of all cleanup actions t+at s+ould 7e performed and allow one to selectEunselect eac+ specific cleanup action. $fter carefull! re-iewin all t+e selected cleanup actions1 press t+e G'xecuteG 7utton to actuall! cleanup all t+e selected duplicate files.

/!picall!1 t+ere are lots of duplicate files in t+e =indows s!stem director!1 w+ic+ are critical for t+e proper operation of t+e operatin s!stem. $ll duplicate files located in t+e =indows s!stem director! and ot+er application specific directories cannot 7e remo-ed and it is +i +l! recommended to a-oid touc+in t+ese files.

DupScout allows one to cate ori5e detected duplicate files 7! t+e file extension1 file t!pe1 si5e1 user name1 last assess time1 last modification time and file creation time. $fter finis+in scannin t+e specified dis<s or directories1 DupScout performs automatic file cate ori5ation and fills t+e list of detected file cate ories1 w+ic+ is located Cust under t+e list of t+e duplicate file sets in t+e main >)I application.
