Population Bangladesh is among the most highly and densely populated countries in the world. With a land area of 144,000 square kilometers (55,600 square miles), the population density is remarkable considering the fact that Russias entire population is slightly smaller than Bangladeshs. In July of 2012 the population was estimated to be over 161 million. With extreme overpopulation, Bangladesh is one of the poorest countries on Earth, and most people are subsistence farmers. With more than 1,000 people per square kilometer (2,600 per square mile), the country is one of the most crowded on Earth. Poverty is widespread, and almost half of all Bangladeshis live on less than $1 a day. Economy Bangladesh is a developing economy with a good GDP growth of around 6% over recent years. Bangladesh has done well against the global economic meltdown of 2008-2009. Export earnings has been increasing in recent years with almost three quarters of the income being generated by Ready Made Garments (RMG) sector. Another source of revenue for Bangladesh is the expatriates who send billions of dollars back home each year. The Bangladesh economy is dependent on its huge and inexpensive labor force. Bangladesh is taking advantage of its population. However, this population is also the main cause of concern for the country as it remains poverty stricken and mostly unskilled. Having one of the highest population density in the world, Bangladesh economy will always face the challenge of feeding such a large population. More importantly, With this unskilled population, Bangladesh economy cannot diversify its earning source to any technology based business sector as those sectors will need a highly skilled workforce. Bangladesh economy is going to be dependent on

manual labor industries at least for the next ten years. In other words, Bangladesh is going to ride on its unskilled and cheap labor. With no other sector looking as potent as the RMG sector, it is safe to assume that Bangladesh will be dependent on the RMG industry for the next decade. But there is one question which is unanswered. Is Bangladeshs growth completely dependant on the RMG industry? Is that giving birth to development? Or is it creating growth without development? Bangladeshs RMG industry has provided employment to many people, but has it been able to change the fate of its workers? The answer is definitely no. Because we can see that even though the RMG sector is growing large, the workers of the industry are still poor and no change has taken place there. Equality for women

Bangladeshi woman mountaineer Wasfia Nazreen conquered the summit of the Mount Everest early Saturday as part of her 'Bangladesh on Seven Summits' campaign, one of her associates said. Wasfia, 29, reached the highest peak of the Mount Everest at 6:41 am, associate Korvi Rakshand told bdnews24.com in an email. This is for the first time a solo Bangladeshi woman with no other team members has led an expedition to the top of the world after she started her journey on March 26 to mark the Bangladesh's 40th year of independence. Her victory came within a week of Nishat Mazumder's expedition to the world's tallest mountain as the first Bangladeshi woman.
