1. Introduction - 2. Panel description

1.

Introduction
The RTU is an all purpose unit for use with all FlktBus based control equipment like Precipitator and Bag-house filter controllers. The RTUs, just one or several, can be installed where it is convenient, eg in the main control room or in the switchgear room, etc., but the RTUs can even be handheld service units. All data and window displays are retrieved from the controller with which the RTU communicates. The RTU gives an immediate and clear overview of connected subunits. You can check, follow and alter parameters, provided the operator is authorized with the correct password, during operation. If anything is wrong, the RTU will display alarm messages on the screen and an external alarm is activated if warning lamp or horn is connected to the relay output. Windows including symbols, bar graphs and curves will give you the present status. All texts are available in several languages.

2.

Panel description
The keyboard has a minimum of keys and is easy to operate. Key operations are guided by instructions on the screen. The following picture is an example of a window layout.

The RTU monitors all nodes on the net and keeps track of their names and addresses. A node is a single addressable entity connected to the net. All connected nodes will be displayed in the [Node list ]. When an additional node is connected to the net, the RTU will immediately add it to the [Node list]. If a node is disconnected from the net it will be deleted from the [ Node list]. Note that all nodes declared in [Nodes present] will always be included in the [Node list] . The following example of the [Node list] shows, that one node is missing and that two nodes are undeclared. The boxes to the right show that "EPIC 2A" is in operation and that "EPIC 3A" has the T/R in off position. "EPIC 3A" has also an alarm indication ( ).

5. Explanation of RTU window structure

[RTU-menu]
The window display below shows the "RTU menu"

RTU Window contrast Internal parameters Nodes present Password Internal tests

RTU menu Program Version: X.X

The following sections describe the different functions in the [RTU menu]

[Window contrast]
The contrast on the RTU window is affected by the ambient temperature. If the contrast is unacceptable it can easily be changed with this function. The adjustment is stored in non-volatile memory which means that the RTU remembers the new setting even after an interruption of power supply.

How to adjust the contrast

1. Adjust the window contrast with the and arrow and then press .

It is also possible to temporarily adjust the contrast without selecting the "Window and keys simultaneously and adjust the contrast contrast" simply depress with the or key. This adjustment can be made at any time. Note that the temporary adjustment are not stored in the non-volatile memory and if a power interruption causes the RTU to restart it will "lose" this adjustment and return to the adjustment in [Window contrast]" .

[Internal Parameters]
The [Internal Parameters ] are important as they define the RTU operation. They are all stored in the non-volatile memory.

RTU RTU node address: RTU node name: Language: Timeout window:

Internal parameters 2 RTU English Disable

RTU node address

This is the address of the RTU. Each node must be assigned an unique address between 5 and 125. The default value at delivery is "2". It is very important that all nodes have an unique address and this is achieved with the Network node address list compiled by ALSTOM Power.

SEIND / E2701 E reg 440 / 1998-12-03

5. Explanation of RTU window structure

RTU node name

All nodes can be name assigned. The name length is max. 15 characters and it need not be unique, but it is recommended. The name will be displayed in the [Node list].

Language
Besides english RTU has several local languages to choose between. The common language english is displayed whenRTU communicates with a unit that has different local language Note that if a RTU with eg Swedish as its local language displays a message from a an EPIC with Spanish as its local language the message will be in the common language English.

Timeout window
This parameter enables or disables the timeout function. Disable This parameter disables the timeout function. Retrieve from node The RTU returns to the specified node when "Retrieve from node" is selected. The RTU display will automatically return to the specified node number when the keyboard has not been used for 10 minutes. If the specified node does not exist the [Node list] will automatically be shown. Nodelist The RTU returns to the [Node list] after 10 minutes of inactivity.

[Nodes present]
This function shows if any important nodes are missing and that the net is complete with all the nodes. The RTU must know the network nodes to be able to signal loss of nodes. All declared nodes are monitored by the RTU. If a declared node is detected missing, an alarm message will be displayed and the alarm relay will be activated. The alarm relay activates an external alarm device such as a horn or a warning lamp. The window below, is displayed when [Nodes present] is selected.

RTU Automatic declaration Manual declaration

Keyboard
This test allows you to check the eight keys on the RTU. Check that the symbol on the key pad corresponds to the same symbol displayed on the screen. Press each key at least twice.

Parameter Memory
This test performs a total check of the EEPROM memory. This test is more complete than the self test. It will take about 5 seconds.

Communication Channel
This test performs a loopback test to check that the driver circuit to the net is functioning correctly. Note, during the Communication Channel test the RTU must be disconnected from net to avoid interference

Supervisory Circuit
This test checks the processor supervisory circuit. The test simulates a program error. When the control circuit is functioning correctly the RTU will restart the self test after about 1,5 sec. If this test fails the RTU will stop working. If this happens simply switch off the RTU and switch it on again.

9. Password function

9.

Password function
The password function is a shell function within the FlktBus system. All units (nodes), connected to the FlktBus, that can accept data input from operators or from external communication lines via gateways, are protected against unauthorized manipulation of data by a three level password function. (The Password check routines are placed in RTU and MTU).

Password location
The password function resides in the RTU/MTU themselves. All other executing nodes on the FlktBus network only indicate to the interface nodes the actual password level for the requested parameter. The interface unit requires the correct password before alteration of data is possible.

Default password settings

The passwords levels are preset at delivery. Low=1, Medium=2 and High=0470.

Interference avoidance
To avoid different password levels being used in the interface nodes connected to the same FlktBus network, a new unit connected to the network will adopt the password levels from the nodes already connected to the network.

Setting of password
Using one of the RTU/MTU a password can be altered for all connected interface nodes. However, this is only possible if the highest password level is known by the operator.

The last chance

If the highest level of password has been forgotten it is still possible to enter the system using the following procedure: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Disconnect all RTU/MTU nodes from power supply and from the network by unplugging the modular plugs. Select one RTU and connect it to a modular jack and simultaneously keys until all start-up tests are completed. depress the Set the new password by using the "Password" function in "RTUmenu". Disconnect the RTU/MTU from the modular jack and connect it again to restart the communication. Wait one minute and reconnect the other interface nodes, one by one, to theirs modular jack.

Parameter alteration
The RTU/MTU requires a password entry when you wish to alter a parameter. When you have given the correct password it will remain as long as you use theRTU but if you do not use the RTU for 4 minutes ( when the cursor disappears) you must give the password once again. This means that you do not have to give the password every time you make an alteration.
