Aim

Software for life cycle assessment using a simplified approach.

Brief description

EVERDEE is a web based tool for screening LCA designed to adapt the ISO 14040 requirements and offer easy-to-handle functions with sound scientific bases. Complex methodological problems (system boundaries definition, choice of elementary flows and impact categories, data quality estimation and documentation) are simplified according to the SMEs needs. The userfriendly inventory procedure offers predefined Goal and scope definition and Inventory forms. The tool is supported by the database, which contains pre-elaborated environmental indicators of substances and processes for different impact categories, and the help-on-line. For each step of the inventory procedure users input their data concerning the quantity of the inputs/outputs, choose a corresponding entry from the database and evaluate the quality of the data they have input, selecting between predefined options. The version 2010 will include the IMPLEMENTATION of the European Life Cycle Database (ELCD), (http://lca.jrc.ec.europa.eu/lcainfohub/datasetCategories.vm), the possibility to print a report with the main aspects of the LCA, collection of data on new product chains (by means of EU project in which we are participating at the moment), implementation of case studies for consultation, a Portuguese version (with a database on wood furniture sector specific for Brazil). Moreover eVerdee is part of the joint tool box of ACT CLEAN project (selected tools at EU level to foster ecoinnovation in SMEs)

The first step consists in defining the title and the goal of the analysis. The second consists in introducing, starting from the object components list, the information on every element of the object, including its manufacturing and transportation steps. Also information concerning the manufacturing operation ( energy consumption, pollution etc.) are to be added. Then the software calculates the values on 10 indicators in absolute value but also in a normalized way, letting an easier hierarchical reordering of the criticalities to treat.

Import/Export facilities: for data import and export, Microsoft Excel can be used as an interface.

Graphical display options: the current version does not allow to print out the results but in few weeks a release will create reports in various format, including standard labeling possibilities

Current version available is V.1, V2 will be available in mid 2011.
