Section A [45 marks] Answer all questions in this section. 1 ABC enterprise bought a machine for RM 56800. The machine was financed by paying 10% down payment and the remaining on a 5 year loan with 4% interest per annum, compounded monthly. The machine loses 15% of its value immediately and 10% per annum thereafter. a) Find the monthly payment. [3 marks] b) What is the total interest payment? [3 marks] c) Find the book value of the machine after 5 years. [2 marks] A retail store in Kota Kinabalu receives shipments of a particular product from Kuala Lumpur with the following demand. = 200 4 Where p is the price of the product in RM and q is the quantity consumers will buy at that price. a) Find the revenue as a function of price. [1 marks] b) What price should the company charge for the product to maximize revenue? [4 marks] c) Find the maximum revenue. [2 marks] 3 A beautician needs 12, 20 and 20 units of the liquid A, B and C respectively for one session of her treatment of hair problem among her customers. Shampoo X contains 6, 3 and 4 units of the liquid A, B and C respectively and is priced at RM 25 per bottle, whereas shampoo Y contains 2, 6 and 4 units of the liquid A, B and C respectively and is priced at RM 35 per bottle. a) Formulate the beautician problem as a linear programming problem. [4 marks] b) By using graphical method, find the quantity of each type of shampoo the beautician needed in order to minimize cost. Hence, calculate the minimum cost per customer the beautician could charge. [8 marks] A project consists of the following activities with their preceding activities and durations (in days). A factory requires 500 components each month with are bought at the cost of RM 2.00 each from the supplier. It costs RM 20.00 each time to place an order. The total holding cost is made up of the capital cost of 10% per annum of the value of stock plus RM 0.04 per unit per annum. a) If the lead time is zero, determine the optimal order quantity. [3 marks] b) Calculate the number of orders per year and the total annual inventory costs. Section B [15 marks] Answer any one question in this section. 1 The monthly demand and supply functions for particular mathematics reference book in a book store have been estimated to be given by = 184 4 and = 4 + 8

respectively, where p is the price of a book in RM and q is the quantity of the reference book where consumers will buy at that price. a) Find the equilibrium price. [3 marks] b) What quantity of reference book is demanded at this equilibrium price? [2 marks] c) Sketch the demand and supply curves on the same axes, and interpret the point of intersection. [4 marks] d) Calculate the consumers surplus and the producers surplus. [6 marks] 2 A company has developed a new product and has identified the activities necessary for the product promotion campaign as follows. Using this table, find the critical path and the minimum number of the weeks needed for the campaign. [6 marks] c) What is the effect of increasing the duration of activity F to 5 weeks? [2 marks] d) Draw a Gnatt chart for the campaign. [3 marks] e) If each activity requires one worker to supervise, determine the minimum number of worker required if the campaign is to be completed in minimum completion time. [1 marks]
